I am an accountant with a sense of humour, which most people consider a contradiction. I live in the UK on the Wirral with my wife and two bitches. That's a Border Terrier and a Cockapoo, in case you're thinking I'm living the life of an African tribe leader who believes he's a gangsta rapper. I have three grown up children but have never quite managed to grow up myself. At the age of eighteen, I was often mistaken for pop idol, Donny Osmond. Nearly four decades on and ravaged by time, the best I can now do in the look-a-like stakes is Richard Osman from BBC TV's Pointless. Osmond to Osman, how the mighty fall. Chimpanzees in Dungarees is my first published book. I can imagine there's already more than a few, hoping it's the last.

The Meandering Moose and the Pig Woman - A Trip to the Big Hole and Back. by Genie Waldo May 06, 2012 $2.99 9395 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
Ever since I began to read adventure stories as a young girl, I wanted to write the stories I could never find in my local library. I wanted mythical earths and mythical times. I wanted stories of boys and girls, wonderful creatures and beasts who together crossed water and land to rescue the trapped one, save the lost one, and recapture the treasure - all the while trying to stay alive! I wanted bonds of friendships so powerful even time and distance could not sever them. I wanted loves so loyal and pure that even heartache and death could not destroy them. I wanted painful partings and happy endings. I wanted tears. What I really wanted was Quest. Canada is my home. The vastness and diversity of this land is, I hope, well reflected in Quest. Much of what is Canada (in land and people) fired my imagination for Quest. My hope is that Quest takes you back to a time when you were ten or twelve, and left your house and ordinary things, wandered off to sit under the orchard trees or escaped to the play-house or to the park and, in your quiet corner away from the everyday world, lost yourself in a story of wonder; an adventure story you might often have imagined as you played childhood games. For me, that world was always Quest. *** - Don't forget to watch for Quest II: The Rejoining.

The Ultimate 80's by John Schweingrouber May 04, 2012 $8.99 23669 words Sample 5%
Author bio:
Thanks for checking out my books and bio on Smashwords. I'm John Schweingrouber, horror author. I began my writing career in early 2000 when I found myself between jobs. Having been a big fan of the horror genre, I found that writing horror for my first project, L&L I, the Night Walker, came easier than other story lines I had unsuccessfully tried. A few great characters and four novels later, I now find that I enjoy the art of writing more and more each day, although literary success in the form of money and overall sales still seem elusive. Learning the craft of writing as I've gone along certainly hasn't been easy. However, at the end of the day I hope that I developed some great characters and stories that have entertained you, although I do not have a team of professional editors and marketing machine behind me. As for the free downloads and samples on Smashwords, I'm aware that the page numbers are still showing from the paperback copies and that it looks funny on the downloads. Apologies. My next book, a collection of short stories will be published specifically for e-readers. Thanks for understanding! Thanks again for your time and I hope you were entertained. If you enjoyed one of my books please feel free to leave a comment on Amazon to help other readers. Also, feel free to check out my FaceBook profile. I sometimes will put free samples of short stories under the "notes" section. Cheers!

Percy the Parrot and other Pet Subjects by peter cain May 01, 2012 $2.99 20306 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
Captain Peter Cain (born 1954) spent all his childhood years living in a small village called Buxworth which is situated in the hills of the Peak District in North Derbyshire. At the age of 20, he broke away from village life to become a Redcoat Entertainer at the Butlins Holiday Centre in Ayr, Scotland. From there he advanced from being a bingo caller and then manager to sales executive for a cleaning firm before finally owning his own business which he eventually sold. He aimed for a complete 'life change' and went through the process of becoming a professional boat skipper. He sailed around to Portugal and settled in the beautiful tourist locality of Lagos, which is situated in the west of the Algarve. He has worked in the region as a skipper on various tourist boats during the summer seasons since 2000. When he was in his early 30’s, having always shown an interest in writing, he was a whisker away from having some of his work accepted for TV. Until recently his work commitments prevented him from further pursuing his love of writing and poetry, but now has time to return to his favourite pastime. His first book, which has been published through Kindle is called 'Percy the Parrot - and Other Pet Subjects', which is based on the African Grey parrot Peter once owned and also in the book are some of his many other humorous encounters with various creatures ranging from mice to elephants. To add to this, his new book 'A Sign of the Rhymes' which was released on March 1st 2012 contains humorous rhymes, 'Puzzling Poems' and a concept he has named 'Re-versing Rhyme', an interesting take on poetry. Peter has just finished writing a follow up to his first book which is entitled 'Percy the Parrot 2, the bird's perspective''. A light hearted fictional account of events as experienced by 'Percy'. The book is also now available through Kindle publishing. Peter is presently in the process of writing more poetry and rhymes with an illustrated children's 'A-Z of Animal Poems'.
A Wander in Vetland by John Hicks May 01, 2012 $4.99 74435 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
I am a recently retired veterinarian. My wife and I emigrated to New Zealand in the early 1970s. Apart from a brief stint in a dog and cat practice in Yorkshire, I have spent most of my working life in various parts of rural New Zealand enjoying the challenge of mixed practice with sheep, deer, dairy and beef cattle, horses, working dogs and pets. For my two vet-themed books I have drawn as much on my formative years in England as my subsequent experiences in New Zealand. Emigration brings with it a questing interest in origins and roots and this is also a theme in my writing. I was the 'Vet Talk' columnist for The Southland Times for several years and have contributed articles to scientific journals and various magazines. My columns were usually of a quirky, or satirical nature - in similar style to that I have used in 'Pizzles in Paradise', which was first published by Hazard Press in New Zealand in 2005 and reprinted in 2007. The new edition of 'Pizzles in Paradise', and its recently completed sequel, 'A Wander in Vetland', are my first ventures in epublishing.
