There really is not much to say until about 5 years ago. That is when Shakespeare changed my life. I watched The Merchant of Venice and had an epiphany. Very slowly over the next five years I wrote adaptations of Hamlet, Richard III and Merchant. My epiphany was that Shakespeare did not write his plays to be read. He did not write them for you or me. He wrote them for HIS audience. So, my adaptations take us back in time to Elizabethan London, and put us front and center in that audience to watch these plays as they would have been performed for the first time. And it is how that Elizabethan audience reacts to the plays -- laughing when it is funny, crying when it is sad, and heckling whenever they feel like it -- that gives us, the modern audience, a translation to the play.

Providence; a love story by Wayne Tilden Providence; a love story by Wayne Tilden April 19, 2012 $1.99 5460 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
I have been writing - to one degree or another - for most of my life; at least as long as I was able to hold a crayon. My mother had to read some of these to me because I was too young to actually read. This interest increased throughout my school years, especially in high school where I served as editor of our annual creative writing club newsletter. By the time I was in college, however, I just didn't have the time (read: make the time) so my writing kind of fell by the wayside. Later, I began to write plays; many of which were performed in churches throughout the United States, the UK, and South Africa. It was through this that I met many others involved in similar ventures throughout the United States and Canada. As I reached retirement in July of 2010 I began to write in earnest. I have written for HubPages.com, for BookRix.com, and occasionaly for my blog. Now I am about ready to see some of my work REALLY be published. My second-cousin has just had a book published through a similar company; as well as a print book. I hope to be able, then, to see my own work "in print". You can read more about who I am and some of my thoughts at any of my other profiles on this page.

This is my first attempt at a play, although I have been writing and publishing all my life. My daughter, Dr. Kathleen Malley-Morrison, a psychology professor at Boston University, has edited a massive ms into a play-sized document. My latest project is my blog, http://tearsandlaughterat90.blogspot.com Publications Water on the Brain, Yachting, 1956; Completely at Sea, Motor Boating, 1959; My Unbalanced Budget—and Husband, Yachting, 1960; Needle, Thread, and Airspeed, Air Progress, 1970; Mutiny on the Skyknight, Plane & Pilot, 1970; Taming a Baby Airliner, Plane & Pilot, 1972. Take My Ex-Husband, Please—But Not Too Far. Little, Brown & Co., 1991. My deepest values are: Live and Let Live (my mother's philosophy), pro-choice, anti-bigotry, pro women's and men's liberation. Other profundities: Darwin yes, God maybe. I'm getting a lot of this stuff from an album, "Grandmother Remembers," given to me when my first grandchild, Teddy, was born on January 4, 1979. The album asked, what are you most proud of? Answer: my first published article, my first solo, my first, second, third and fourth child, Kathie's winning tenure at BU, my children's parenting skills, Vonnie's incredibly great letters,Timmy's articles in National Fisherman, his friendship with a humming bird, staying friends with my ex-husband. Another album topic:"Everyone thought I shouldn't, but I'm glad I" . . . married young. In those days you were bounced out of college if you got married (which seemed like a neat idea to me, since I was pregnant). My mother, at first crushed, became devoted to Ed. She dedicated one of her books to him, "The Story of Lengthwise": To my son-in-law, Edward W. Malley,Jr.and his wife Barbara, under whose merry roof this story was written.

Paul Olson is the author of a play based on the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala, that has been produced in multiple locations in Michigan. His play, "The Dry" (inspired by the Barnes-Hecker mine disaster) was produced as a joint project of the Peninsula Arts Appreciate Council and the Michigan Iron Industry Museum. His first three plays offered here (Dracula, A Christmas Carol, and Jane Eyre) are especially created for less-experienced acting groups in schools, community colleges, and community theaters. They are designed to give beginning theater groups an opportunity to present stories with "name recognition" that will appeal to audiences and provide a satisfying challenge to young thespians. He is a social worker in rural Michigan.

The Tragedy of Harold II by Merlin Douglas Larsen The Tragedy of Harold II by Merlin Douglas Larsen March 20, 2012 $0.99 22536 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
I'm "middle-aged", married once, have nine children and a growing number of grandchildren, and I'm retired. I have plenty of time for writing and researching. Perversely, I have little ambition to do so. The books I have written seem to have satisfied my urge to explore and express in this medium. "I know practically nothing about almost everything." That's a mantra that keeps me from getting too full of myself. The test of a good book is when the author can return to it after many years and find it satisfying. Because we mature in our thinking as we age, it usually happens that a return to earlier literary creations shows up how ignorant we were. If a book we wrote back then stands up to the passing of time, we must have done something right. I must have succeeded in retaining the good stuff and disposing of the bad; because, despite the inevitable flaws that I see now and could not see then, my books and short stories from the swiftly receding past entertain me today. I put up most of what I think I know on the subject of the Norman Conquest at my Website, see link below....
The Awakened Beauty or Penelope’s Odyssey by Dmitry Berger The Awakened Beauty or Penelope’s Odyssey by Dmitry Berger March 19, 2012 $4.99 28787 words Sample 30%
Author bio:
Dmitry Berger is not really a writer. Come to think of it, he is not much of anything, despite the array of jobs and experience he has had: industrial assembly line worker, farmhand, artist, archaeologist, theatre light man, musician, software architect, soccer coach and player, piano teacher, trophy husband, to list a few. Oh, and he also writes. By and large, he is the closest thing to an ancient Greek philosopher, a Socrates in a winter jacket, if you will, who sits in a marketplace, observes the busy life around him and, if asked, shares his thoughts. Of course, given the nature of his being, Dmitry hardly fits anywhere in the modern world. The fact that he was born in 1963 to a Cossack mother and a Jewish father, in the brand new Ukrainian city of Novaya Kakhovka dubbed by the Soviet government the City of Communism, did not help his case at all. Particularly, when at the age of thirteen, he decided to dedicate himself to finding the truth and the meaning of life and becoming a complete human being. And, after about twenty-two minutes, he indeed found the truth and the meaning of life, and had nothing else left for him to do but remain a human being, albeit a lazy one, somewhat. Inspired by the poetry of Soviet heavyweights Mayakovsky and Vysotsky, he began writing poetry, prose and music, trying to create something unique, different from each other stories and characters, the way Beatles created songs that never sounded the same. Since making ones art sellable did not really matter in the USSR, Dmitry could do whatever he felt like. This wanton neglect of building a recognizable brand bit him in the ass later, when quality of production and attention to detail became vital in his futile attempts to sell himself out. Whereas Socrates was a gadfly to the Athenians, Dmitry Berger is more like a litmus test to the rest of the world. His entire life as well as his art is essentially an experiment designed to make other people challenge their preconceived notions of everything, mostly of themselves. As you can guess, Dmitry does not have many friends or allies. In his first twenty-seven years spent in the USSR, among other accomplishments, Dmitry had failed to publish a few stories, wasn’t able to stage a play, could not form a band or release his songs. Interestingly enough, it was not because of the prevailing ideology, as many claim, although he did openly leave the obligatory Young Communist League just for kicks. As soon as they graciously accepted his manuscripts, the Soviet publishers and directors, just as their American and Canadian counterparts would, suddenly realized they had no idea what to do with them. Dmitry’s writings offered another, slightly skewed point of view on commonly accepted things, while not being overly outrageous or fashionable enough. As an ancient philosopher, comrade Berger did not really care. He was going to Canada. In 1990, he with his wife and daughter sneaked into the suburbs of Ottawa, where he is still firmly stuck, probably for life. Until this day, he continues to expand his raging interest in every bit of what is life: from quantum physics to kinky sex, from the hand of God that helped Maradona break English hearts to American political circus, from the inner workings of our brains to slow roasting back ribs, in order to cram it all into his writings and music. As the years go by, Dmitry Berger is forced to take himself more seriously and, since book publishers and movie producers would not commit, he intends to convert some of his material into radio plays, audio and comic books. Collaborators are always welcome.
