One-Hundredth Goliath: a short story | by Jeff Posey May 02, 2012 | $0.99 | 7152 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: “Where did these rocks come from?†asked the geology professor. The fifty or so students ambling among the pile of stones at the bottom of the hill offered answers in tentative voices: a Precambrian ocean, an ancient river, the continental shelf …. The professor shouted “No!†to each answer. Then a skinny, prematurely balding student pointed at the top of the hill with his rock hammer and said in a ringing voice, “They come from up there!†“Exactly!†boomed the professor. That skinny boy was me. I’ve always had a flair for pointing out the embarrassingly obvious. Friends and colleagues say I have a gift for explanation, clarification, synthesis. I’m also fascinated by darned near everything. Which explains why I: Have a geology degree, nearly earned a degree in biology, nearly earned a master’s degree in journalism, spent a decade as a magazine writer and editor, did five-and-a-half-years of night school to get a master’s degree in financial analysis (of all things), and once tried my hand as an independent financial consultant. I like challenges. If I feel ignorant about something, that motivates me to figure it out. My work credits include: DFW Writers’ Conference, for which I was Director in 2011 Founder and sole member of Jeff Posey Enterprises LLC, the business entity for both my Author and Corporate work Javelin Marketing Group, where I labored on more than 80 pitches to prospective clients and placed nearly 50 stories in the trade press Carter & Burgess Inc. (now Jacobs Engineering Group Inc.), where I managed external and internal communications Free Range Communications Group Inc., a marketing/communications company I founded and managed for five years VHA Inc., where I started up and managed a book-publishing division American Way magazine where I managed more than fifty freelance writers and started up a fiction section D Magazine, where as City Editor covering Dallas politics I learned over and over that nothing is as it seems Sun Exploration and Production Co., where I looked for (and found) oil and gas deposits The University of Dallas and Fun/Ed Inc., where I taught people how to write fiction Along the way, I’ve earned an award for investigative magazine journalism, gathered more than a dozen speaking awards with Toastmasters International, and published about a half-dozen short stories with small literary magazines. |

Broken Road | by Cindy Rush May 02, 2012 | $0.99 | 136837 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: I was born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1957. I have loved reading ever since the alphabet letters in Dick and Jane suddenly became words. I do not have a college degree, but it’s never been difficult to create a laudatory speech or article when I was emotionally attached to the subject, or to dash off a caustic harangue when I was really angry. In 1978, a dear friend committed suicide. From that loss, a wish began, which grew into an idea in 2002. In April 2010, my husband became insistent that I try my hand at writing the novel that had been rolling around in my brain for eight years. The storyline had become a topic of conversation anytime we made an out-of-town trip. During that summer, I had the experience of typing as fast as I could while the story “wrote itself.†The characters talked to me day and night. I loved the writing, but did wonder sometimes if I was losing my marbles, especially as I rode the emotional wave over the conflicts and heartaches the characters endured. Broken Road is the title of my first publication. I had never intended to pen a sequel, but the leading characters had other plans, badgering me with so much information that it was either put it into print or go nuts. Full Circle is currently undergoing revisions. Calling myself an author puts me way outside my comfort zone. I don’t have a college degree--not even close--but slowly, I’m becoming more at ease. At this point, I can’t remember what life was like when I wasn’t writing. |

Of Honor And Deceit | by Mike Due April 29, 2012 | $3.99 | 83460 words | Sample 30% |
| Author bio: Mike lives with his family in a suburb of Cincinnati, OH. Born and raised just south of Cincinnati in Erlanger, KY, Mike attended St. Henry High School where he entertained the idea of one day being a writer. Later Mike attended Northern Kentucky University where he initially majored in Journalism and wrote for the school newspaper, The Northerner. He eventually decided he wanted to be a technical writer and changed his major. He received a Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing with a minor in Psychology. His first job after graduating was with a small marketing research firm where he was hired to write marketing research reports. As fate would have it, he would have to wait to be a writer because the staff computer person quit that very day, with Mike being thrust into the IS support role. Over two decades later, Mike is still working with computers and loving it. He is currently a project manager in the eBusiness department of a Fortune 500 company in Cincinnati, OH. Mike has also been a musician since the age of 15. He spent 3 years playing with Johnny Fink & The Intrusion in the 1990's but quit to pursue marriage and a family. He later played with several worship bands in the Cincinnati area. Eventually he realized his life was too busy to continue with performing music and eventually sought another creative outlet that required less time away from home. Family life brought Mike one step closer to writing once more in a rather unexpected way. Mike loved telling his daughters stories at bed-time. A family tradition was born as his daughters asked him to make up stories spontaneously which yielded a few classics which his now teen-aged daughters still recall with amazing clarity. His family began to urge Mike to write down his stories which indeed rekindled Mike's writing. Soon he realized he had a number of ideas for a novel, although not necessarily for children. In 2007 Mike wrote his first novel. He spent 6 months writing the book, another 6 months revising it, 1 year working with an editor and another 6 months rewriting yet again. Eventually he decided he was not happy with the final result and set upon writing something entirely different. This first novel, however, helped Mike understand the process better and helped him develop a more creative and efficient process of writing. In 2010 Mike began "Of Honor and Deceit" and published the book online in March of 2011. The book is a psychological thriller with a military backdrop. Deep in the story-line are a number of layers of ethical difficulties that challenge the reader with their own belief systems. "This is not me trying to push an agenda, or trying to tell anyone what they should believe or how they should act when faced with these kinds of tough decisions, but I just want them to make up their own minds and try to think through their own beliefs." Mike hopes to pursue publication with a traditional publishing house in the near future. He is also currently half-way finished with his next novel. |

Secrets of 'The Pit' | by Marc Hopkins April 26, 2012 | $4.99 | 83378 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: I worked 19 years for Ed Lowe, the inventor of Kitty Litter. We were friends, but after his passing, and due the economy I was let go. Given I live in the middle of nowhere, since the layoff I've been bereft of a job. At times I've struggled with a sense of personal dignity as I've tried to find gainful employment and get my life back on track. The raw rage contained in my novel is a literary exorcism of personal demons, a coming to terms with the gross injustices of this world. I would compare my work to the realism of Truman Capote who developed an edginess for understanding the grim realities of American survival, blending journalism with fiction. I am untutored in the ways of academia, but an autodidactic who has channeled his energies into learning what is essential for continued existence. Currently, writing is a form of psychological survival, a means through which I process the world around me. I tell you all this by way of autobiographical background to help you understand that I have a compelling back-story that includes among other things a life as a semi-pro wrestler, bouncer and scout master. I am also the father of a son and two daughters. ---------------------------------------------- A Word from my Mentor - Booker Shortlisted author Michael Collins Please give due consideration to the depth and rawness of this novel. My name is author, Michael Collins. I was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in England for a gritty, crime-genre novel. I've worked extensively with Marc and believe he has captured the elements of crime, suspense and social critique in a raw and unnerving work of genius. The edginess of the serial killer is so perfectly rendered I fear those reading this work might mistake the author for the protagonist. This is to Marc's credit for creating such a real character. Rest assured Marc is sane. He just had the unflinching vision of a genre writer to take us into the heart and mind of a serial killer struggling with socio-political realities of modern-day America. |

| Author bio: Bernadette Y. Connor is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born at home in a one-room apartment in North Philadelphia; the fourth of five children. To help her family financially, she sang rhythm and blues in many of the local nightclubs until she graduated from Dobbins Vocational Area High School in 1969 and was hired as a secretary by Sun Oil Company. Bernadette’s first love was music, but she found herself writing poetry that reflected her feelings about the African American experience and events. Some of her earliest writings were published in SCLC monthly magazine. Both singing and writing had to take a back burner to caring for her family, but midnight often found her doodling. A divorced mother of three, Bernadette saw that all of her children graduated from college. Several jobs came and went before Bernadette found her niche’ at AT&T working as a communications technician, a position that was both intellectually and physically challenging, and male dominated. With the merger came a lay-off for Bernadette that she saw as an opportunity to begin a new career, but that was put on hold by a series of medical problems and finally the devastation of the brutal murder of her eldest son on Christmas Eve of 1991. Her zest for life, travel and adventure were nearly extinguished. However, Bernadette’s thoughts slowly returned to writing. The literary fire was stoked by reacquainting herself with her earlier poems. Bernadette embarked on yet another adventure. She wrote a simple love story called “Finally†that opened the gate to an avalanche of works . . . 13 novels and 7 screenplays. Bernadette’s published debut novel, “Damaged!â€, the first psychological thriller ever written and published by an African American garnered her a spot in “Who’s Who In America 2004â€. After posting a $100,000 bond he was released. After his release he recorded "Out on Bail" which became a local hood classic. Daddy Rich turned himself in August 22nd, 2000 to begin serving a 6 year sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction. His album sold while he was incarcerated. In late 2002, due to time cuts and "good behavior" he was released. In order to help fund his dreams of becoming a rap star Daddy Rich became a licensed Realtor and continued to sell cocaine. Somebody That I Used To Know- A Short Story | by M M-Stewart April 21, 2012 | $0.99 | 8571 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: Hey! First of all, thanks for picking my work to read! I love to write and tell stories, and I have been doing it since I could hold a pen. I love zombies, the italian mafia, and serial killers. Not in that same order and not for the same reasons. I love to read books in bed, at work, in the car, in the tub, in the air, when I'm mad, when I'm happy, when I'm hungry....ect I'm very blunt. I'm very sarcastic. I'm damn funny and cute to boot. Normally, in all of my stories you'll read some reference to rock n'roll music, Joshua Homme (my favourite rock star), and/or Queens of the Stone Age (my favourite rock band). If you don't see these things then it's probably not one of my stories. And if you don't like these things, tough titty. My favourite colour is purple :D Stephen King is my favourite author. After reading, movies are my second love. My stories are meant to make you laugh, excite you, thrill you, but most of all, entertain you. After all, writing is one of the oldest sort of entertainment there is. I am looking for literary representation, so fill free to message me for any information. Don't forget to leave a REVIEW!! Enjoy. |

Amongst Sunflowers | by Odette Botha April 21, 2012 | $0.99 | 58177 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: I grew up in a small town in the Freestate, South Africa. I was an above average student. At times I was a bit of a rebel, but what teenager wasn’t? I moved to Cape Town when I finished High School in the hopes that I would become someone important. I managed to find a job as a Telemarketer selling Funeral plans. Things didn’t get much better after that. I worked for dozens of companies after that as their Receptionist. I went back to Call Centre life but as a customer service agent. It didn’t work out well because I just felt like a punching bag. One night I was sitting on my balcony overlooking a very busy road. I saw ten maybe twenty ambulances and police cars rushing to an accident, all of a sudden I imagined what it would be like being in that ambulance on my way to safe a life, on my way to possibly make a difference. Two weeks later I enrolled and became a qualified Paramedic. After months of studying and passing with a Cum Lade, I couldn’t find a job as a Paramedic. No ambulance service wanted me, not even for free as a volunteer. I started suffering from bad insomnia and slept if lucky two hours a night. One night I picked up my laptop and started writing. Sentences became paragraphs and so it went on till I had a completed manuscript. I wrote three manuscripts in total but I constantly read and rewrite them. My manuscripts are fiction and mostly fantasy. I am obsessed with Hollywood, actors and New York City even though I have never been there. I would love for my work to be published. I always felt I was born for greatness and I still believe it. I enjoyed writing if only as an escape but I feel the stories I wrote are entertaining enough to share. |

The Two Bits Club | by WriteOnEPublishing April 20, 2012 | $12.99 | 52908 words | Sample 15% |
| Author bio: Write On E-Publishing was created as a means of marketing new authors to a global readership without bankrupting them. Writers all to often are faced with a choice of waiting endlessly to be "discovered," using their rent money to pay for a hellish experience with a vanity press, or indie publishing without results because they don't know how to promote themselves. Write On takes care of all of that! We publish short works of fiction and non-fiction, promote those stories while the writer retains full author's credit for the work. The best part is that it doesn't cost the writer a dime! Write On writers get promoted at no cost to them and when they are ready to publish their masterwork, they can do so with an enthusiastic audience awaiting their next book. |
