Fender Benders by Bill Fitzhugh Fender Benders by Bill Fitzhugh July 19, 2010 $7.99 110933 words Sample 50%
Author bio:
Bill Fitzhugh is the award-winning author of eight satiric crime novels. The New York Times called him “a strange and deadly amalgam of screenwriter and comic novelist. His facility and wit, and his taste for the perverse, put him in a league with Carl Hiaasen and Elmore Leonard.” Warner Brothers and Universal Studios bought the film rights to his novels Pest Control and Cross Dressing respectively. Cross Dressing was nominated for the Barry Award and won the 2002 Best Fiction Award from the Mississippi Library Association. The Organ Grinders was a Border’s Books “Original Voices” selection in 1998. Pest Control was one of Amazon’s Top 50 mysteries in 1997. It was produced as a radio series in Germany by Deutschland Radio and as a stage musical by Open at The Top Theatre Company in association with Canum Entertainment. The initial Los Angeles run of the play was a huge success, staged at the NoHo Arts Center in Los Angeles, featuring Tony Award winner Cleavant Derricks along with Broadway veterans Darren Ritchie, Beth Malone, Joanna Glushak and a cast of dozens. It won the Los Angeles Stage Alliance’s Ovation Award for Best Costume. The show is still in development and the producer hopes to take it to New York. Reviewing, Highway 61 Resurfaced, Time Magazine said, “Fitzhugh’s dialogue is as cool as a pitcher of iced tea, and his characters are just over the top, like a Carl Hiaasen cast plucked from the Everglades and planted, as Dylan would put it, out on Highway 61.” Fitzhugh’s young adult short story, “Fiddy Dolla Smile” was published in 2007’s “Full House” anthology (Putnam). His short story “The Neighbor’s” was published in 2008’s “Thuglit Presents Hardcore Hardboiled – The Best of Neo Noir Fiction” (Kensington Books). His short story, “Blind, Crippled, and Crazy” was published in the anthology “Delta Blues” (Tyrus Books) in 2010. Fitzhugh’s most recent project was The Adventures of Slim and Howdy a fiction project based on the alter egos of country superstars, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn. Publisher’s Weekly called it a “comic caper filled with plot twists and nutty one-liners . . . a zany cast of bad guys . . .and a boffo final shootout. Corny as hell but heaps of fun!” Since 2005, Fitzhugh has been writing, producing, and hosting a show on XM (now Sirius-XM) Satellite Radio’s Deep Tracks channel called “Fitzhugh’s All Hand Mixed Vinyl.” He is one of only three outside hosts on Deep Tracks. The other two: Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. Fitzhugh next project is The Exterminators, the sequel to Pest Control. It will be published in the spring of 2011. Fitzhugh’s novels have been translated into German, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, and Romanian. He is a former member of the board of directors of the Southern California Chapter of Mystery Writers of America. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, two dogs, and a cat named Crusty Boogers.

Double Trouble: A Ryan/Lehrer Mystery by Jim Lacey Double Trouble: A Ryan/Lehrer Mystery by Jim Lacey July 15, 2010 $1.99 102303 words Sample 50%
Author bio:
Jim Lacey grew up in Brooklyn, New York, in the Golden Age before the Dodgers abandoned Ebbets Field. He was the victim of a classical education under the auspices of the Jesuits at Brooklyn Prep and St. Peter's College, where he majored in philosophy, English, and (well, almost) mathematics. After a year at the University of Bern, Switzerland, Jim became the first teaching assistant in the English department at Boston College. With an M.A. almost in hand, he did a stint as an artillery officer at Fort Benning, GA, returned to New York to marry the love of his life, got a job teaching English in Brooklyn, and began to take courses at NYU. After a year of research in Germany and (finally!) finishing his Ph.D., Jim found a home at Eastern Connecticut State College. At Eastern he developed an American studies program, chaired the English department, and directed the honors program for ten years. After retiring from Eastern, he wrote Double Trouble, a mystery novel, just for fun. Jim and Barbara Lacey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August, 2008. They have two children, Christopher and Beth, both with doctorates in science, and six grandchildren. .

Broken Dreams by Nick Quantrill Broken Dreams by Nick Quantrill July 03, 2010 $4.99 76628 words Sample 30%
Author bio:
Nick Quantrill was born and raised in Hull, an isolated industrial city in East Yorkshire. From a young age, Nick has always had a fascination with crime novels, starting young by annoying the local librarians for Famous Five novels. Never realising he could be a writer, Nick spent most of his twenties shouting and bawling his way around the Sunday League football pitches of the city, learning the hard way and meeting an impressive array of characters. With a handful of trophies and permanently damaged ankles to show for his troubles, football was swapped for education, spending the next six years studying of a degree in Social Policy. Approaching now or never time, Nick started writing crime stories set in and around his home city. Instead of just throwing them in a drawer and not letting anyone read them, the stories were made available for free on the Internet, and after winning the HarperCollins ‘Crime Tour’ short story competition in 2006, he started to build a readership. Fast forward a couple of years and after much hard work, a few false starts and countless short stories, Nick completed ‘Broken Dreams.’ Focusing on Hull’s past and future; the novel looks at the death of the city’s fishing industry and explores the problem of how the city can build a new future for itself. ‘Broken Dreams’ also introduces us to Nick’s lead character; rugby league player turned Private Investigator, Joe Geraghty, co-owner of a small detective agency. Nick’s stories are both entertaining and thought provoking, and although the settings may be local to him, the ideas and issues resonate on a much wider basis. When not writing fiction, Nick contributes reviews and essays to a variety of football and music websites. He lives in Hull with his wife, cat and the constant fear Hull City AFC will let him down.
