The Adoption of Daniel
It is not easy to find out that you cannot have your own biological children. It is not easy to accept the fact that in order to have a child join your family, you need to go through the adoption process. The fact is, though, that adopting a child is one of the most rewarding experiences one can ever go through. The adoption process can indeed be daunting and exhaustive, but the reward at the end is a child that is very much wanted. Here is our story of the adoption of Daniel.
When we decided to adopt a child we chose to do a foreign adoption due to the lessened waiting times. There are many countries that offer foreign adoptions, but we decided our best bet was to adopt through the country of my ethnic heritage, that being Yugoslavia (this was before the Serbia-Croatian war and it was still called Yugoslavia then). My parents had both come from Yugoslavia many years before, and I still had relatives that lived in Belgrade. Our hope was that my relatives would be able to help us with the adoption process.
