My Pal Daisy

I say My Pal Daisy, but she is really my wife's dog. I have never had a dog of my own and never really aspired to own one. When I was younger I was more of a 'cat person', even though there was the saying that dogs have masters, but cats have servants. Dogs just didn't appeal to me.
From the time my family began to grow up, we had dogs. My elder daughter had a couple of Spaniels and the distress it caused her when the first one died also caused me a great deal of pain and turned me 'off' pets in general.
The boys also had dogs for pets and without exception they chose big ones - German Shepherds and the like which were kept outside of the house in the yard. But while they were proud of their mates, they weren't too keen on looking after them.
The last of the family dogs prior to Daisy was given to our younger daughter - he was an Australian Terrier and she named him Sam. I became quite attached to Sammy and whenever I picked up the car keys he would be there wagging his tail waiting for a ride in the car. But he had one bad trait and that was to chase cars - though what he would have done to it if he caught one, I don't know.
It was eventually to spell the end of Sammy when he was run over. My wife had also become very fond of the little dog and was very upset, as I was, when I brought his stiffened body home from where I found him on the side of the road. Once again that was 'it' for pets as far as I was concerned.
