This article is dedicated to those “Closet Authors and Writers” who are “itching” to become writers and self-publishers. May you find your inner strength to “come out of the writer’s closet” and share your talent with the World.

Become a Self-Publisher/Independent Publisher

Have you always wanted to write a book? What’s stopping you?

Do you know you can self-publish your own book by making them available Electronically (also known as E-books) and in Paperback? Yes, you can do it yourself without the use of a Literary Agent or a Publisher.

There is a massive market out there for electronic books and paperback books and Self-publishing so don’t let anything stop you from sharing your thoughts with the world. There are people waiting to hear from you!

Although I can’t promise that being a writer and self-publisher will make you a fortune, however, I can give you some tips and guide on how to become a self-publisher. Being a self-publisher means you have total control over your books.

If you do not wish to self-publish, you may send out query letter to Literary Agents who will assist you in finding the right Publisher for your book or perhaps find a publisher on your own. Most Agents do not charge a fee. In fact my advice to any writer who is considering using an Agent is never to pay an Agent. Also make sure that any Agent you’ll be using is a member of Association of Author’s Representative.

So, I hear you asking how do I do self-publish? Well, there are several avenues available to a self-publisher these days. Technology and Internet have made it easier and more time and cost effective to become a self-publisher.

You can write and self-publish any type of books. Self-help/Self-improvement, Thriller, Romance, Military, Fiction, Non-fiction etc. –any types of books at all and you can self-publish literally at the touch of a button.

Choose a topic that you’re familiar with and enjoy. Are you writing fiction (made up story) or non-fiction (based on real life)? Once you’ve chosen which topic “tickles your fancy” that you want to write about, start writing using Microsoft Word or similar program. This is because MSWord is easy to manipulate.

Don’t try to rush your thoughts. Write at your own pace and think through what you’re writing. If you get writer’s block or get bored, get away from the book and do something else. Tomorrow is another day and you can work on your book whenever you feel like it. The objective is to complete a well written book that will appeal to your target readers and audience.

Categories of Topics you can write about and self-publish:

Fiction

Adventure

Anthologies

Children's books
