Foreword

I'm a double prostate cancer survivor. When I was going through my agony, it was rough and I didn't have much to read about. But today, African-American men, who get prostate cancer more than other groups of men, they don't have to look far. They have the Internet. And if they are lucky to find the works of Andre Campbell, then they are in better shape than I was back then. I've seen Campbell's work, especially his award winning documentary on prostate cancer and how it affects African-American men.

I've gotten a chance to read his books on prostate cancer and can see how his books help the African-American community. I'm blessed to be around this man who does very good work for the community and I will always continue to support him. And I hope you will too. I’m so glad that he is trying to get the word out on prostate cancer and how it greatly affects the African-American community.

Preface

Dear Friends,

When I began researching the effects of prostate cancer for a documentary film production, I was completely amazed at how little I really knew about the subject. As a man of a certain age, not only was I at risk but, as an African American man, my risk factor was nearly doubled.

So with my twenty-plus years of videography and filmmaking, I set out to make this documentary that eventually became a passion of love for me and my production staff. I decided to write my first book about what I’ve learned about prostate cancer, through the effort of producing our documentary. You can say that this is a companion piece.

I hope there is something in the book that you can learn from. As I tried to put forth as much information as I could gather on prostate cancer screening, during my documentary. This book is my contribution to you.

Chapter 1 - To Be or Not to Be

This is not a medical book, but ideas on what you can try to do to keep your prostate healthy as possible. Thank you for reading “Can you… Cancer Proofing Your Prostate.” Of course you can’t do that, but Some Doctors and nutritionist may say why not do the things we think that can help. Now I cannot guarantee that you’ll be prostate cancer free, but this book may offer you a possible chance to cancer-proof your prostate gland. Every brother has a different body, and food, vitamins and exercise works differently in all of our bodies, so results will definitely vary.

I’m not here to turn your prostate gland into that of Superman’s prostate gland where the only thing that might affect his prostate would be a lump of kryptonite. Kryptonite in your and my case may in fact be cancer attacking the prostate. Yeah, that sucks. Is there a way for us prevent it? Well let’s find out and you be the judge, you work with the jury and that would be your doctor.

Well let me get the disclaimer out of the way first. I’m not a medical doctor of any kind nor do I pretend to be one. Any information you get herein, you should discussed with a doctor before trying anything out in this book. Capish?

The idea to write these words came somewhat out of the blue. This was my way of doing something for the African-American community, hoping that it would help them with prostate care health. There is a lot of information on the World Wide Web. Now you don’t have to venture to the brick and mortar building of a public library, just go online to a site and you are there as you sit at your computer.

But the idea was to cull together some information here so that you wouldn’t have to search the length and breadth of the Internet at the moment. If you find something here that is interesting to you, I suggest you go online and Google that topic till the cows come home. As I always say, knowledge is power and more knowledge is absolute power, absolutely.
