Author’s Note

The term “Asian” has been marginalized in Western (i.e. primarily U.S.) media as usually people from East Asia (for example, Japan, China, and Korea) and to a lesser extent Southeast Asia (ex: Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia). However, the term “Asian” (outside the U.S., in various European countries) would have varying meanings. For instance, in British English, “Asian” would mean someone from South Asia (India, Pakistan) and “Oriental,” a term that would be offensive elsewhere(likened to calling a black person from the U.S. a “Negro”) would mean those individuals from East Asia.

Asia comprises of many countries, many dialects, and many people, not only from areas known as East Asia, and Southeast Asia, and South Asia, but Central Asia (ex: Afghanistan, parts of Russia). However, for the purposes of this eBook 1st edition, “Asia” and “Asian” refers to actors or characters directly from, or with heritage from East, South, and Southeast Asia...as well as America.
