Laughter, the Best Medicine

By Georgiann Baldino

Carl Wiggins scanned the bar and picked a spot. The woman next to him wore clunky Ray-Ban sunglasses. “I like your style,” he told her.

A smirk tickled the corner of her mouth.

“I’m Carl,” he said. “I’m a promoter.”

Laughter rumbled in her throat. “Advanced socioeconomic segmentation would help you find a viable candidate,” she said, “before you try to score.”

“But I made you laugh.” Carl liked to put a positive spin on all of life’s challenges. “I peer into the black hole of your eyes and forget that life exists anywhere else in the world.”

“And I’m supposed to give a rip?”

Carl lit her dry-cured cigar. “Instead of market research, I tap into people’s urges. Never go wrong with animal instincts.”
