Cupcakes are the newest trend in sweet treats. Everyone loves those sweet little cakes that can be used on so many occasions. And decorating cupcakes can be quite an art. But are they really just cute little miniature cakes—or are they a wonderfully flavorful little concoction deserving their own title?
In history, it is thought that cupcakes can about from different origins. Some people believed that cupcakes were invented because the batter was baked in little teacups, so that the little cakes would not take so long to bake. The tiny cups also allowed them to cool faster. Others historians believed that the name for the cupcake was used because of the way the ingredients were measured (1 cup of flour, 2 cups of sugar, etc.) It doesn’t matter which theory you consider the right one. The important thing is that cupcakes came down through history as a delightful treat that everyone can enjoy.
It is not surprising that cupcakes are making a in today’s world. They are extremely popular due to the fact that they are easy to make, easy to serve, can be quite attractive—and are extremely tasty. They can be made for any occasion and can be displayed in various eye-catching ways.
Cupcakes can be used in the family atmosphere as a dessert for an everyday supper. They can be dressed up and presented at a birthday party for children or at a fancy wedding dessert buffet. Sometimes cupcakes can even take the place of a traditional wedding cake. You can serve theme decorated cupcakes at baby showers, for Halloween treats, for Christmas delights, or as a sure money-maker at bake sales and church bazaars. And cupcakes are not just a ‘girly’ thing either. Cupcakes are popping up everywhere, even at men’s sports parties. Men love their chocolate too, so why not serve a chocolate cupcake decorated with a football or hockey theme? And cupcakes are just the right thing to serve at a sweetheart dinner on Valentine’s Day.

You can add fun and fancy decorations, like lacy carmel drizzle, fun shapes like stars or animals, create delicate flowers, or simply place a nut or cherry in the centre.
There are many ways to display cupcakes to take advantage of their cute or beautiful decorating. You can use tiered stand to display them, or it is not uncommon in today’s world to see a cupcake display in lieu of a fancy, traditional wedding cake.
You can even fill your cupcake with different creams to add to the uniqueness and taste. Or you can add a surprise centre like a chocolate kiss or caramel in the centre.

* Cupcake Baking Tips
* Know your oven. • Every pan, liner, and oven is different so you should monitor your first batch of cupcakes closely. Check after 10 minutes of baking time to insure that your cupcakes are cooking evenly. You may need to turn the cupcakes in the oven halfway through baking time to guarantee that they are baking evenly if, for example, your oven cooks faster towards the back of the oven. If you use a convection oven, this may help with this problem.
* Do not overfill your liners. You should fill your cupcake 1/2 to 2/3 full for regular sized cupcakes. If you overfill the liners the batter will spill out on top of the pan, and you may have a mess to clean up, as well as a sloppy looking cupcake.
* Bake all of our cupcake recipes on the middle rack of your oven unless otherwise noted. Again, monitor your oven to be sure the cupcakes bake evenly.
* If you decide not to use cupcake liners when you prepare cupcake recipes, you will need to butter and flour the individual sections of your cupcake pans. Store bought cooking sprays well for this purpose.Then you just need to dust the pan lightly with flour. There are even cooking sprays out now that combine butter and flour.
* Cupcake liners are inexpensive and easy to use. You can buy them at your local grocery store, at your department store or even at some dollar stores. They not only make cleanup easier, but they can color or decoration to your cupcakes. Many liners come not only in plain pastel colors, but you can get cupcake liners that are patterned for your special theme as well. Or you may use paper or foil cupcake liners.
* When choosing a cupcake pan, shiny is better. Shiny pans help to reflect heat better and result in more evenly baked cupcakes. If you use the darker cupcake pans, you may have to lower your cooking temperature by 25 degrees to achieve the best results with your cupcake recipes.
* Try to keep at least 2 cupcake pans with 12 1/2 cup wells each in your cupboard. This eliminates the need for you to cool your first pan of cupcakes before you finish baking the rest of a large batch of cupcakes.
* If you do only have one cupcake pan, refrigerate batter with plastic food wrap covering the batter between bakings. Press plastic wrap onto the top of the batter to ensure a skin doesn't form on the cupcake batter while refrigerated. When your first batch of cupcakes has cooler and are removed, you may have to cook the second batch of cupcakes a little longer since the cupcake batter will be cooler.
