Justin's fanbase is largely under the age of eighteen, and up until very recently any backlash he has encountered has been of the decidedly G-rated variety, such as negative commentary on his hairstyle, wardrobe, or choice of girlfriend.

It's a pretty rare phenomenon to see the same faces smiling from the cover of Tiger Beat year-to-year. It's a perfect exercise in "out with the old, in with the new."

Changing Gears

Justin Bieber is facing the biggest challenge of his career thus far - transitioning from child-star to adult entertainer. Bridging this gap has proven to be a tricky business for many that have come before Justin, but it is not an impossible leap to make.

Two good examples of teen idols who managed to transition relatively smoothly from teen stardom to adult renown are Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake. Both began their careers as the youngest and cutest members of incredibly popular boy bands, and moved onto adult solo careers even more impressive than what came before. The single quickly shot up the Billboard charts, and got Donny's flagging career back on track again.

What's Next for The Biebs?

Justin would be wise to heed to the experiences of those who came before him. He should take careful note of who succeeded in bridging the teen idol/adult market gap, who did not, and why. Bieber does possess an impressive amount of genuine talent aside from being adorable, so this will definitely better his chances at adult success. As Justin himself states:

My goal at the end of the day-right now-I want to be successful and be great at what I do. But eventually, I want to become the best at what I do. I want to be the best. In the world. I want to be better than anybody that's ever done it! Because for me, I work so hard and this consumes my life, and it's not worth it if I'm not the best."
