Pearl looked at the time. She needed to get home. There was a party she had to dress up for. Her boyfriend Greg had told her that it was going to be pretty special. She looked at the cars that swept before her. There were many. She would have to cross at the real crossing metres ahead.

“I hate this!” steamed Pearl as she began to walk up the pavement towards the traffic light which seemed so far away.

She stormed in her step. The cracks were made a little larger as she walked. However on one step her heel broke, and Pearl stumbled to the concrete. She gasped as she looked at her shoe. She then got up to her feet and began to walk. She took off her other shoe and began to create holes inside of her stockings. She narrowed her eyes as she did, and she grunted as she trod on stones.

“I hate this;” she muttered. “I do;” she added.

Pearl grunted as she stepped forward, and slowly she made it home.

Pearl looked at the sunset by her letter box. She smiled to it. It was down and she had just reached home. She shook her head as her laddered stockings rubbed her last nerve string. Walking home had proved harder then expected, and sooner or later she had just given up rushing. She was not going to make it home in time for the ball.
