Sara rolled off her boyfriend onto her back and stared up at the ceiling, exasperated. He just didn’t get it. He was never going to get it. Sure, Thomas was a nice guy, he was handsome, responsible, and caring, but he was never really going to satisfy her. He just wasn’t capable.
“Was that okay for you?” Thomas had rolled onto his side facing Sara with a huge grin on his face. Well, Sara thought, at least one of them had a great sex life.
“Mmhmm,” she responded. They’d had this discussion so many times that Sara knew it was useless. Bringing up her frustrations again would only provoke a fight and hurt Thomas’s feelings. She’d grow even more resentful and, in the end, she wouldn’t get what she needed anyway.
Not that Sara could really blame Thomas. He was a completely ordinary man; she probably could have expected the same reaction from ninety-nine percent of the other guys she knew. In fact, she had never actually met a man who was willing to give her what she really wanted. She wasn’t even really sure if she wanted to know a man who would give her what she wanted.
During the day, Sara was a strong, confident, successful woman. She was just wrapping up a doctorate in Russian literature and she already had a prestigious job lined up. She considered herself an outspoken feminist, and so did most of the men she was friends with or dated.
