Questions We Can Ask Ourselves

Introduction

As I so often attempt to do, I find words inside of a word.

Recently, I looked a little closer into the word DIVORCED.

I realized from the letters within it, you can spell a number

of relevant words that in their own way, heighten and enhance

its original meaning. So with rhyme & reason but in no

particular order, I present to you a few poems from words

I found in DIVORCED.

Divorce Is The Unraveling Of Attraction”

Did we do something wrong in mid spree?

If we stayed together too long, did we

Violate a sacred trust?

Overlook what’s

Right for us?

Convince me

Each thing we took in spite was just

Do that and I will endorse any course of action

Divorce

Is the unraveling of attraction

Vehement with venom like no other

One bite

Reduced two people to tears

Convinced that

Ending it might lead them to another

Destined to make up for a break up…

…That broke through what divorces engineer

When lost causes have spoke up & spoke through

What still echoes loud & clear

Remember The Rice”

Remember the rice

It was all so nice

Comforting too

Even though we didn’t know what hit us until it did

Rice engrained then strained us

It became the same as the love that waned & detained us

Conventionally in a pressure cooker

Even when we couldn’t keep it under a lid

Rice was thrown at us by every spectator

It was later high & dried

Categorically denied

Even in good riddance it would pro quo the quid

Remember the rice

It’s on a honeymoon in paradise

Covering all memories

Even as our vows are on the skids

…God forbid and so do we, with each regret

We dish out all we cannot take

As we so easily forget

Out Of Body Experience”

Void where prohibited

Out of body experiences

If exhibited, they are

Devoid of nothingness

& unavoidable nonetheless

Devoted souls find a little something more

Experiencing the splendor of

Visitation rights in un-withered heights

Outside our selves intimacy no longer delves

In a surrender to a physical connection

Damaged by a rigorous love and beleaguered sensuality…

…An out of body experience sets a spirit free

From a body already out of its mind

I Let Love Kill Me Again”

I’ve died at least a thousand deaths

Vowing to myself

Each time “I wouldn’t let love kill me again”

Death came to release me from my baited breaths

Inducing me to intercept

Each inept

Demand, so wherever I stood or understand…

…I would invariably let love kill me again

One blow to the heart was all it took

Rescue efforts failed

I poisoned a dart with my first look

Daggered my path and staggered my trail

Damn

I was introduced to the real me then

Evil twins – I shook one…

…But with my naked ass in the wind

I let love kill me again

Nothing As Cold As You”

I’ve seen

Cold in my days

Eerie winters breezing through…

…But nothing as cold as you

Cold to your core

One iceberg slimmed down and fattened up

Roughed up frozen into cubes

Enough to infiltrate Antarctica

& over populate the tundra in one lifetime

I’ve seen

Cold, I mean way… below zero

Extra minus, minus two…

…But nothing as cold as you

Colder than abominable snow

On par with hardcore values incorporated into

Regional hell freezing, overly

Extended

I’ve seen cold, so cold it was

Classified as some scientific term I can’t

Enunciate past syllable two…

…Now that’s cold, ice cold

Like a North Pole in a nitrogen stew

Chilled when bad intentions brew

But there’s nothing as cold as you

A Slap In The Face”

Overnight stuff changes

Conversion comes

Darn quickly when shit hits the fan

Our narrow minds expand

Condescending while extending

Delicate hands

Others might

Contradict how we

Damn the stuff that blows us away

Or spam enough to

Cause us to pray

Daily to get our stuff & shit together

Organization ain’t our strong suit

Could we have sucked it in and

Dealt with our ordeal better?

Obviously we

Could have

Done it differently

Our shit stinks, our stuff adds up

Controversy sucks the life out of love

Despite our best efforts

Outside interests intervened

Complicating the delicate balance between

Darn it, damn it & shit in place…

…And all the stuff that tore us apart

Is seen as a slap in the face

Our Entire So Called Lives (The Director’s Cut)”

Violent tempers raging

In cages tempered with desire

Dramatize, traumatize and

Engage

Our entire so called lives

Volatile we turn

In tandem, staging

Domestic disputes

Engulfing, disparaging & rampaging

Our sick & tired temperaments

Vile unveils

In increments

Details at

Eleven

Or 9 & 10 or 6 & 7

Vixens grin as pricks & men

Inflict a sin for tricks and then

Dictation ends when flirtation sends in

Expectations then our friends bend

Over - backwards & with exact words…

…Rewind, re-write & redirect

Various versions of our entire so called lives

In HD, 3D,

DVD & 4th dimensionally

Editing out what shouldn’t have been

Offered in our you-know-what

Virtues are spliced

Into the

Director’s cut

Everything nice is

Opened but the lens is shut

Vanity & immaturity were temporary

In perpetuity the tempest is

Diluted & dissolved

Exes exit and though we aren’t quite camera ready

Our entire so called lives have evolved

50-50”

Divide it all 50-50

I wish it was on a

Voluntary basis

Okay, what’s mine is mine & what’s yours is yours

Replaces our original

Covenant and it’s sad

Each of us gets half of what we had

I Will Not Dignify Your Comment With A Response”

Dignity compels me

I heed it

Value it and need it – I am

Ensconced

Rather comfortably, so

I will not

Dignify your comments with a response

Do Me Like You Want To Be Done”

Do me like you want to be done

Run me ragged till I reach a milestone

In a long run
Vertical leaps are all I’ve got, along with

Empty promises yet to be fulfilled

Rub me like you want to be rubbed

I’d love for you to teach me the right way

Dub me “A Strong One”

Energized by horizontal sweeps

Into higher consciousness at home with…

…Inner peace from the outside in

Do me like you want to be done

It will rub off on me and when I have

Done the do the way that you did

I will have ran the run and from it rid - myself of…

Double indemnity from either side

Running to remedies that neither have tried

Once in this

Vicinity I’ll

Extend my long run…

…And do you like you need to be done

The Restraining Order”

The restraining order

Heightens tensions in a way that

Every unhappily married couple fears

Distance is kept

In conjunction with

Vulnerability no longer jeopardized, so that

One’s misjudgment clears & disappears

Readily when receiving paperwork

Clarifying that to go near a once “near & dear”

Entitles one to time in a bigger house…

…Behind barcodes that don’t scan the same

Condemning a spouse who fans a flame

Over official service to restrain and

Uphold a border

Redlined in

The restraining order

I Do”

I do what I’m told

Do what I’m

Obligated to do

I honey do

Do over

Overdo

I do what I have to

Do what I need to do, to

Outdo danger ensuing

I’m in the know & I know what I’m doing

Doing my duty in morning dew

On duty subduing when evening is through

I get my just due

Doing what comes naturally

Only catch would be

If you snatch from me

…The will to freely accrue benefits long overdue

Doing that

Oh Lord, could bend the continuum I’ve gotten used to…

…Then I wouldn’t know what I’d do

A Poem With Two Titles: Cut The Cord & Weaned”

Cut the cord according to your

Own desire to be weaned

Remove you before you are

Demeaned

Claim the sword

Of Camelot

Romance the guillotine

Defend a dream, a dreamer and be weaned

Cut off completely from anything

Outside love’s glory

Ripped away neatly from every thing

Derogatory

Carve out accords supporting your

Opposition to stress

Renounce a stranglehold while staying abreast

Denounce the message-in-a-bottle sight unseen…

…Cut the cord, upgrade the model and be weaned

The Pre-Nup”

Do you love me?” He asked

If you do will you sign a pre-nup?

Verifying before knot tying

Our accumulated stuff

Remains our sole property, should we

Commit adultery when there’s a passionate lull

End it because of irreconcilable

Differences…

…Or if our marriage is annulled”

Do you love me?” She sighed

If so will you sign the pre-nup I supplied?

Validating that after consummating

Our lives will be one, but we will if pain rages

Revert back to pages

Conceived prior to I do’s getting done”

Each of them nodded and their lawyers agreed

Drew up new pre-nups…

…And they were cleared to proceed

Down the line they did get divorced

It seems one was caught having intercourse

Violating the terms

Of husband & wife

Romantically linked with some other than partner for life

Covered in this pre-nup

Every moral

Discretion…

Mishap, faux pas, whoops & obsession

Did they go into it thinking

It wouldn’t last forever?

Virtually insuring

One self fulfilling prophesy

Ruined from the start because these two

Could not foresee

Enduring heart-to-heart towards

Destiny, but how could they…
