When I spoke the words of bringing this project into existence, I was inspired by the people God allowed me to encounter. Once I committed to give my all, there seemed to have been ways created out of no ways for me to proceed. I would like to acknowledge the people in my life that have made this experience possible. Without whom this experience would not have been rewarding, exciting and well blessed.

To my mother, thank you for nurturing me and loving me.

To my brothers and sisters, thank you for that bond that has held us together and continues to unite us. I love you all.

To my beautiful daughter, thank you for being an inspiration in my life. I love you so much!

To the Love of my life, Demetrius, thank you for believing in me, encouraging me to pursue my dreams and find my purpose. I love you!

Most important, I thank God for inspiring me to write this book and for choosing me to be used as a vessel to deliver this message.

Introduction

Tug of war in games is defined as a contest of strength in which two teams tug on opposite ends of a rope, each trying to pull the other across a dividing line. Your strength and your fear are always in a tug of war. Each seeking to be the dominate driving force in your life. Each struggling for supremacy over your thoughts and actions. Your strength and your fear are in a strenuous contest to win. Your fear wants you to be afraid, anxious, or apprehensive about your life. Your fear wants to hold you captive and cause you not to experience and enjoy life. Your fear wants to paralyze you and cause you to accept less than your best. Your strength wants you to be determined, resolute, and filled with power. Your strength wants you to be the best you can be. Your strength wants you to be all you were born to be.

I am going to share with you eight steps to activating your strength to be more successful in your tug of war against fear. The eight steps include Principles, Patterns, Preparation, Practice, a Plan, Participation, Persistence and Passion. When the eight steps are completed you will strike a balance and amaze yourself.

While doing some research on the internet I landed on the yahoo sports server while there I came across something that piqued my interest. Yahoo had six sites dedicated to the unique sport of tug of war. No kidding. I did some further research and found out that tug of war is a sport with considerable tradition. A tradition that dates back to 500 B. C. by Greek athletes. Tug of War was even included in the first five Olympics Games as a Track and Field Discipline from 1900 to 1920. Tug of war is the ultimate team sport requiring everyone to act together to win. The sport is very organized, developed and has a huge fan base. It has the TOWA, you guessed it the Tug Of War Association and then of course there is TWIF, Tug of War International Federation. Who knew? Tug of war has also been included in the World Games since the first one in 1981 and America has a team. The USATOWA was formed in 1978 and it’s members are primarily in the upper Midwest. There are over 50 countries that compete in this sport. It is serious business.
