Chapter I – The Ride on the River
This story begins the day I graduated High School. A friend of mine had asked me to drive him to his job interview with a cardboard box manufacturing company. He was looking for a summer job to earn some extra money. He was planning on attending the US Coast Guard academy in New London Connecticut. I had no plans for college and really wasn’t thinking of working that summer at all.
When we arrived at the manufacturing company, the Secretary handed my friend a job application and then handed me one. I was too embarrassed to do anything but fill it out. To make a long story short, my friend didn’t get hired and spent the whole summer goofing off. I got hired and I haven’t missed a day of work since then. That was 56 years ago. I have had many jobs since then all varying in position; from the bottom to the top. Today, I am the CEO of three different companies, a writer, a lecturer and an entrepreneur. I’ve been poor and I’ve been rich (still am), and I can tell you this: Rich is Better!
What amazes me is that I have been the same “me” through all the different levels of prosperity. As I told you before, my formal education ended when I graduated High School. I’m not very talented and I’m pretty much just an ordinary guy, yet somewhere I figured out the secret of success without knowing I knew it. I’ve often said: “When you know what you know and you know that you know it, then this life is a piece of cake”.
For most of my adult life (I’m 74 years old now) I’ve been trying to paddle my canoe up river. Unfortunately the river of life has a very strong current and trying to reach the top, by hard work alone, is fruitless. Every time I got near the top I would stop paddling to rest and the current would drive me back so that I would have to start over again. This happened several times until one day I saw a sign that said “STOP PADDLING UP STREAM AND GO WITH THE FLOW”. Well, this seemed very radical and a sure way to the poor house I thought. But, by analyzing all the jobs I had had, I realized I made the most gain when I stopped struggling and was able to relax and go with the flow. Since I had no mentor, I thought maybe it was just a coincidence. Then I realized that there was no such thing as coincidence, coincidence is a mathematical term that means to coincide: when two like angles come together they form a perfect match.
Three years ago, I wrote a book called: Success & Happiness; One Day at a Time. This was amazing since I had no writing experience, can’t spell worth a darn, my grammar is atrocious and my sentences end up being three pages long. The amazing part of this book is that is started out to be a sales manual, but everything I wrote had been said a million times before so I threw away what I had been writing and just relaxed. That same day, I listened to a CD by Dr. Wayne Dyer, and he said if you find yourself waking up at 2 and 4 in the morning don’t go back to sleep. That’s what was happening to me… so that same night I placed a writing pad and a pen on my night stand. Sure enough, 2 a.m. on the dot, I am wide awake with a million ideas going through my head. I grabbed the pad and pen and wrote them down as fast as I could. When I woke up the next morning I could not read my own handwriting. I took it to work, handed it to my secretary and said “See if you can make heads or tails of this”. About fifteen minutes later she brought me a beautifully typed manuscript. I started reading it and said to myself: “Wow, this is pretty good stuff”. I asked my secretary where she got this from… she said, with a dumbfounded look on her face, “That’s what you gave me to type.” I read the manuscript over and over again, I just didn’t know why I knew, but that’s just the way it is. The Universe will come to you when you let go and go with the flow.
A month later I had written over 200,000 words which were edited down to 150,000, which became the final book. Now comes the DVD Movie “The Secret” and the book “Ask and it shall be given” by Esther and Jerry Hicks. In an instant I understood The Law of Attraction. The more you chase something the further away it gets. (I had a dog like that. He was a golden retriever named Ben. If I needed him to get in the car he would just run away. The more I yelled at him or chased him the faster he would run. If I would relax and just sit down on the ground, within minutes he would be sitting next to me.)
I then watched the DVD of Esther Hicks explain through Abraham how life is like a ride on the Colorado River on a white water raft. The analogy was that you cannot go against the current; if you try you will eventually be bashed against the rocks. All over the world people are being bashed against the rocks, most give up and stop trying. A few keep persisting and have some degree of success, unfortunately what happens is that some people succeed at making money but their health or social skills suffer by the arduous struggle of trying to paddle against the current.
The Secret behind The Secret is simple; we live in a physical world that is controlled 100% by thought. You need to sit down and think your way to success with feeling. Although this has been said many times in the past, it is still radical thinking and takes a lot of guts.
This is my understanding of the whole system that runs the Universe:
Everything is A.L.I.V.E. – A Living Intelligent Vibrating Energy. This vibrational energy is called the Source; we on Earth mainly call it God. Our goal as human beings is to put our individual vibrational energy in harmony with the Source’s vibrational energy. The Source (God) communicates with us through feelings. There are only two types of feelings, one feels good the other feels bad. There are different degrees of feeling bad or feeling good but there is no mistaking, you will know if it feels good or bad.
In other words, your Source, inner being, spirit guide or whatever you want to call it, is you in a non-physical form and, from its prospective; it knows whether you are on the right path or the wrong path. So to use our white water rafting analogy, life is a fast moving river. We have been taught that the way to success is to work hard, keep your nose to the grindstone, and keep pushing that peanut up the hill. How is that philosophy working for you? Picture yourself in a rubber raft on a category 4 river in Colorado and you are trying to paddle against the current. Is it working for you? My guess is no, or you never would have ordered this e-book. So, the next step is simple…forget what you do for a living or what your success rate has been in the past. You need to understand that if you keep going in the same direction, ignoring the FEELINGS you are getting, you will continue to get the same unacceptable results.
Now, I understand this little e-book is not going to change 2000 years of brainwashing over night. However, you can change your thinking in an instant. Once you change your thinking you change your vibrational energy. Once your vibrational energy is in harmony with the vibrational energy of the Universe then you will attract to you whatever you ask for. This you do, one day at a time. You will find yourself during the day, paddling feverously against the current. Everybody will want you for something at the same time, the phone will be ringing non-stop. You will ask yourself: “How do I feel at this moment?” and in a flash you will visualize yourself paddling furiously against the current and going nowhere. You need to stop, go for a walk, go to the bathroom or just take the phone off the hook. Once you break the negative vibrations you will FEEL your boat start to turn down stream. Your energy will be rejuvenated and you will find that there is only one thing that you need to do now. You do it and look around, no one is bugging you. You smile and you will know that you are now in harmony with the Universe. You will see other people frantically running around in circles, but for you everything is in order. Things will get done; money, good health, love, peace and contentment will start showing up at every turn you make. You will ask yourself: “Why in the world did it take me so long to figure this out?” You will understand it’s not too late for you will have the rest of eternity to enjoy “the ride on the river”.
At first you will try to convince someone close to you to join you in your boat. Of course, they can’t see it yet and this will frustrate you until you learn that it is a ONE PERSON boat and they need to get their own boat turned around. The Law of Attraction states “you will attract to you what so ever you think about, regardless of whether it is good or bad”. How can that be? In the big picture there is no good or bad. There is only harmony or disharmony. Religious teachings, in attempt to justify themselves decided on a set of rules. Obey these rules and you go to Heaven, disobey these rules and you will go to Hell. In order to give these rules, religion decided it would be God’s job to judge people on the specific rules of a thousand different religions. How pompous and naïve were these religious leaders to think God would condemn human beings for being human. This life is not a test to see if we go to Heaven or Hell. This life is a “Ride on the River”. This life is to be happy and to harmonize our Living Intelligent Vibrational Energy of the Source (God). The Source doesn’t care how much money you earn, but if you make a lot of money it certainly will contribute to your happiness.
Now this philosophy somewhat goes against everything we have been taught. If you ask 100 people, 99 will probably tell you this is nonsense. However, if you ask the same 99 people what their financial situation is, you will get anything from “Dead Broke” to “Just Getting By”.
Time to do some soul searching. How do you get rich by doing nothing? The answer: you are not doing “nothing”. You are doing a great deal, you are creating the visualization of YOUR world the way you want it to be. You have turned your boat on the river and are now heading down stream. You will harmonize your vibrations with WHAT you want and the Universe will line up everything you need to attain whatever it is YOU WANT.
Still skeptical? Fair enough! We know for some that percentage wise your way is not working. Write to 100 millionaires and ask them what their secret to success is. Between the standard answers, 100% will say:”I knew WHAT I wanted and I knew I couldn’t fail.”
Here are the steps to follow:
Step I: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT!
Step II: BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN HAVE IT.
Step III: ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN
Step IV: ENJOY THE RIDE ON THE RIVER
Step V: DON’T LOOK BACK, LOOK AHEAD
Step VI: LISTEN TO YOUR HEART
Step VII: SAY EVERYDAY – “I AM HAPPY”
Step VIII: DON’T LISTEN TO THOSE WHO WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN’T DO IT
Step IX: NEVER GIVE UP
Step X: LOVE GOD, LOVE YOURSELF, LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
The DVD “The Secret” has opened many eyes to the possibility that everything is possible. The nay-sayers will try to ridicule it or call you names. They are not in your boat, nor are they making your journey. When they start with their rhetoric, look closely at their situation. You will see people who gave up or maybe never even tried.
Each day your journey begins with a plan:
What do I want?
What do I need in order to get what I want?
What do I need to learn?
Understand you must make this journey by yourself.
Everyone has to ride in their own boat down the river.

Chapter II – The Time of Awakening
For two-thousand years we have been buying a story about WHO we are, WHY we are here and WHERE we are going. Unfortunately what we were told and led to believe was not the truth. Religious leaders in the beginning thought they knew the truth, but unfortunately the general population was ignorant, superstitious and couldn’t see past the bend in the road. So, the religious leaders made up their own stories. They used fear, trickery and treats to get people into the temples and churches. Religion got to be a very profitable and powerful business. Religious leaders started taking over the running of the Governments and even raised their own armies. The real truth of WHO we are, WHY we are here and WHERE we are going was kept hidden from the masses because it would make religion obsolete if the information got out.
Teachers came along to tell us the truth, but for the most part were either silenced or, in some cases, put to death. Two-thousand years ago communication and transportation was non-existent. The powerful ruled, whether they were Kings or High Priests.
The truth then became a SECRET. The Bible became a product of what the Emperor of Rome, Constantine, decided what was fit for the general public to know. In reality God had nothing to do with the Bible. God was portrayed as a vengeful God, one who would judge us for breaking man-made rules and then condemn us to the everlasting pains of Hell. On one hand “they” told us God was a God of Love and on the other hand “they” set God us as a judge and jury. Religion invented the Devil and Hell as the alternative to God and Heaven. Mankind was led to believe we are sinners and need to be punished.
Religions of the world could not agree on which rules mankind were supposed to follow. For Catholics – if you didn’t go to mass on Sunday and you died you would go straight to Hell. However Jews, Muslims, Protestants, Hindus, Buddhists and a thousand other religions were not bound by this “sin”. They had their own set of rules. People are confused and jump from one religion to another looking for the truth. No religion, to my knowledge, had ever proved the existence of God.
When you ask them to prove their story, they just tell you that you have to have faith and just believe. Unfortunately, for religion, we now have mass communication, mass transportation and most importantly the Internet. No longer do we believe that the Earth is flat, or that the Sun revolves around the Earth. We are finding out that people are basically the same all over the world. This planet has not seen one day it its existence that there wasn’t a war going on somewhere. Wars are started by old men and women seeking power and wealth and fought by young men and women who have no idea why they are there. The basis of all war is some form of religious disagreements.
QUESTION: There are two soldiers on different sides, sitting in their foxholes 100 yards apart; both praying to God to protect them. Whose side is God on?
ANSWER: God doesn’t choose sides, God is both soldiers and both soldiers are God.
