Excerpt for True Love: The Story About Choices by Jonathan Hendricks, available in its entirety at Smashwords

Josh sat down and waited for his friends.  It was a cold day, but Josh was only wearing a long-sleeved, black shirt.  He opened his book to where he stopped reading in the car.  It was a slow point in the book, so he looked up to see Rachel and Elyssa (her full name Elizabeth) walking toward him.  He stood up and hugged Rachel, showing the greatest extent of their complicated relationship.

Earlier in the year they had both admitted to each other that they were attracted to each other.  From there they each agreed to ask their parents if they could go out.  Rachel's mom yelled at her and said that she couldn't have a boyfriend until high school.  From there they had agreed to go out in later and have had a subtle relationship ever since.

Rachel and Elyssa proceeded to talk about their Spanish class that Josh did not share.   Josh, used to this kind of thing, stared into the sky, thinking about if he forgot to do some homework or something.

"Yo? Josh? Are you listening?" asked Rachel.

"Oh, yeah sorry.  Just thinking," replied Josh.

"Its fine, Elyssa and I were just talking about how at the end of this week is Thanksgiving break, and how much it will suck.  Well, at least I think it will suck, because I won't be able to see you," at this point both Rachel and Josh smiled ", but Elyssa thinks it will be fun because of no homework.  What do you think?" beamed Rachel.

Josh decided that he wanted to see Rachel blush "I would rather see you and do homework than go without either," beamed Josh.  Both Rachel and Josh had decided that it was a natural talent of Josh's to make Rachel blush insanely easily.  Splashes of red stained her pale, cold cheeks, but only for a second.  Her short, black hair sprang from its resting position as she moved closer to Josh, embracing him for a few seconds before she let go.

"Same here," smiled Rachel as Elyssa groaned audibly, showing her obvious disapproval of a romance between her two friends.  Who else wouldn't be uncomfortable in that situation?  But that made no difference to them other than making Josh laugh at Elyssa's blatant annoyed state.

"What is wrong with you two? Isn't that, like, against the law or something?" scoffed Elyssa

"Go check again Elyssa," laughed Josh ", everything here is extremely legal." Josh embraced Rachel once again to emphasize his point.  Elyssa rolled her eyes and walked off to nowhere in particular.  Ignoring her, Josh turned to Rachel "How are you, I mean other than beautiful."

"I'm okay," blushed Rachel "you?"

"Well, I am talking to you aren't I?" Josh exclaimed before Rachel nodded "Therefore I am amazing."  Rachel opened her mouth to reply but the bell cut her off, signaling to them to get to their lockers and then to class, pronto.  Josh sighed and walked through the hallway, holding Rachel's hand all the way, until they reached Rachel's locker.  They hugged and Josh headed for his locker.  When he got there he swung his red backpack off of his back and into his locker, pulled out his binder, and shut the locker door, lock closed.  Josh ran his freezing hands through his somewhat warm long-ish, midnight black hair.  He arrived at his Chinese class to see that Mr. Heartless was their substitute, which didn't matter because they were just working on their essay today.

His friend Morgan slipped into her seat, which was next to his, right as the bell rang and Mr. Heartless turned around.  He handed out the papers and started to pull out his laptop, which everyone knew was all he paid attention to when "teaching".  Josh pulled out his bag of candy left over from Halloween and placed it on his desk along with his mp3.  "Hey, Morgan, do you want a chocolate?" Josh offered.  She looked tired and Josh thought that she hadn't had any breakfast by the grumbles roaring from her stomach.

"Yeah, thanks.  I am starving," smiled Morgan as she grasped the candy in her pale hand.

"No problem," grinned Josh.  He picked up his mp3 and handed her a single ear bud whist he placed the other in his left ear.  She accepted the gift and rested it in her right ear.  He then proceeded to play his endless playlist of his favorite band, Fall Out Boy.  Resting his head on his elbow, he started to write about his family that he dreaded, his two younger brothers who stole his things every day, his younger sister who felt that his room is her personal living room, and his parents that thought him to be stupid even though he was taking geometry in seventh grade.  Yes, he thought of school to be his utopia.

Josh handed Morgan his last chocolate silently and continued to listen to Fall Out Boy's hit single, "This Ain't a Scene, it's an Arms Race" and explaining his annoying family with Chinese characters.  "So how is your essay coming along?" asked Josh in an attempt to make conversation.

"Fine, my family is not very large so I am almost done.  How about you?" replied Morgan politely while her hand preformed the twists and turns of the symbols with a pencil in hand.

"I am just doing my regular family, so it is only six people.  I am so grateful that we don't have to do our whole family because I have tons of cousins and uncles and aunts.  Also I have a lot of pets, but I don't think that we are supposed to include them, are we?" asked Josh curiously while meanwhile something was happening that they were oblivious to.  Kyle, the rumor mill and class clown, was spreading a rumor that Josh liked Morgan and vice versa.  Most knew this was unlikely because they knew of Josh and Rachel's relationship.

"Hey, Josh! Why don't you just kiss her already?" asked Kyle feeling full of himself.

It took Josh a couple of moments before he understood what was happening. "Piss off, you all know that Morgan and I are not a couple," shouted Josh as he stood up and rolled his eyes.  Kyle snorted before going back to his essay.  Mr. Heartless was, of course, still transfixed by his computer screen.

"Sorry about that," apologized Josh "you know how Kyle is, always aching for something to try and expose about someone."

"It wasn't your fault," said Morgan sweetly "Kyle is just a jerk and you were just being nice to me."  Josh noticed her amazing smile and looked away, sat down, and resumed writing his essay while contemplating the thought that Kyle might actually be right, maybe.

Josh continued to ponder that thought until he got home, especially during lunch when he shared the presence of Rachel and Elyssa.  His head was aching with all the thinking that he had done.  He decided to erase that pain with the reading of a good book, so he picked up his book and continued to read.  Everything that had pained him in the last few hours suddenly vanished from his memory and he was completely immersed in his book.  In what seemed like minutes, but was actually hours, Josh had finished the book and his troubles came rushing back into his head. There was homework to be done but he decided to take a nap first.

When he awoke, Josh found that he had a way to test the severity of his problem.  He mulled over the details of his plan while completing his geometry homework mindlessly.  Tomorrow would make his load a lot easier to carry, or not.

After his homework was finished he headed into his bed.  It was a bunk bed even though he had his own room.  The top bunk housed his assorted things and his bottom bunk held him while he was sleeping.  Sweeping away assorted books onto the ground below Josh lay in his bed, on top of the covers, and dozed off.

"Beep-beep-beeep-beeeeeeeep" was the sound that Josh's alarm clock made to wake him from his rejuvenating rest.  Grudgingly Josh slammed his fist into the alarm clock to turn it off.  This was going to be a long day, one way or another.

Josh's binder clunked down and made a huge noise, but not bigger than the collected talking in the classroom.  Morgan slipped in, nearly late, as always.  Josh froze for a moment before remembering his plan.  He glanced at the clock and decided to wait about 5 minutes before carrying out his plan.

'Tick, tick, tick, ti-BANG' was what sounded throughout the fairly big classroom as Josh slammed his head against his desk.  The five minutes were going by agonizingly slow, and Josh just wanted it to stop.  "Are you okay?" asked Morgan, ever so sweetly.

"Yeah, perfectly fine," replied Josh shaking it off.  Most of the class was staring at him.  It was very awkward so Josh decided to ease the tension with his classic monkey face.  As he pulled his ears his upper lip puffed up, resulting in what was the most believable monkey face in the history of the world.  Everyone laughed, including Morgan, Josh noticed, and went back to their studies.  Feeling it was the right time, Josh tapped Morgan's thigh lightly and grasped her hand.  'Now time for the test' Josh thought.  He gently squeezed, waiting for Morgan's response.  She squeezed back and blushed.  They both squeezed, yet again, but at the same time, sending Morgan into a fit of silent giggles.

The rest of class was easy for Josh to ignore as he searched his mind for an answer.  He could come up with none.  Zero.  Zip.  Nada.  Zilch.  He had no idea what he should do next; he had feelings for both Morgan and Rachel, but couldn't put one over the other.  As class ended, Josh pulled his stuff together and headed out the door.  When he was barely out of the doorframe, a hand that Josh quickly identified as Morgan's pulled him aside, into the deserted hallway.  "Um, Morgan, I know that you want to know why I did what I did.  Well-" stammered Josh, but before he could finish his statement, Morgan's lips embraced his in a passionate kiss.  Josh was surprised at first but he caught on and embraced her just as passionately.  What was probably only forty-five seconds seemed like forty-five days to Josh.  Morgan pulled away, smiled, and headed off to class.  Josh followed her example, slightly dismayed.

Geometry and the rest of his classes until lunch were boring.  Josh had to keep a casual conversation going between him and Rachel.  It took all the self-control he had, and some he didn't have, to keep a straight face.  After the painful period that was lunch, Josh continued his day.  In the last period of the day he was reminded of the dance that was happening that night.  'Now or never' Josh thought, but that was not the only thing Josh was thinking of, there was also the fact that no matter who he chose, he would live to regret it.  Sometimes situations can be lose-lose and win-win at the same time

There were minutes until Josh had to leave for the dance; he was wearing a black collared shirt and some dark jeans.  Tonight was the night, the night to choose, the night to risk it all.  The theme was Attack of the Snowflakes, 'Who comes up with this stuff?' thought Josh, annoyed that his big night of choice would be themed as a children's board game.  He sprinted down to the car when he heard the honk of the horn.  He slipped into the car as it took off; starting the eight minute journey to his school and the night he would most likely remember for quite a while.

It was a cold night, the air pounding against Josh's uncovered face.  He watched, silently, at the others inside.  Everyone there happy, none of them sad, not yet anyway.  Inside Rachel saw me and dragged Josh inside.  It was sweet when they danced for a little bit, Josh all the while contemplating his decision.  Eventually they stopped, and Josh traveled to the punch bowl to be refreshed before what was, almost definitely, going to be a long night.

Morgan was also there, dressed in a tight candy cane t-shirt and a light jacket.  As usual, she looked amazing, yet again dragging my attention to the fork in his road.  Morgan pulled Rachel aside and started to talk.  Josh knew that by the way she was motioning she was explaining the predicament.  'Guess it is now time, ironic, I just decided' Josh thought, taking another sip of punch.  Rachel looked more and more distressed as Morgan continued to speak.  Josh almost laughed as he turned away while they were heading towards him.  They each grabbed one arm and dragged him into the hallway.  "Tell this slut that you are mine!" Rachel yelled.

"No no no no no no, tell this bitch that you are mine!" screamed Morgan.

"Girls, girls, you are hurting my ears," said Josh slowly.

"Tell her that we are going to go out in high school! Tell her that we are madly in love!" shrieked Rachel slamming her foot down angrily.

"Just shut up!  Why can't you accept that Josh is mine now?  We are the ones in love! Just like when we kissed after Chinese today," replied Morgan.

"You kissed?" gasped Rachel "But, but...how could you?"

"Just tell her, you want me, not her, right?" asked Morgan, seeking to end this argument.

"Well, I thought a lot over the last few days, about my feelings, for both of you.  If I could see that I liked one of you more than the other, because I love you both.  I reviewed my favorite memories.  Rachel, when we first said 'I love you' to each other.  Morgan, our kiss this morning and when we held hands in class.  And I have come to a decision.  Not an easy one, but a necessary one.  I choose you." Josh ended, pointing at the one, he knew, he could be with forever.

"I pick you," Josh repeated, pointing straight at the one he knew was right for him, Morgan.  She was sweet, kind, and beautiful.  As soon as he said this she gave him a huge hug.  Josh blushed as they both let go.  Rachel still had her mouth wide open, waiting, waiting for an explanation.

"Sorry Rachel, I know this is shocking for you, I only discovered my feeling for Morgan yesterday. So if you want to, you can punch me, slap me, or anything else that would make you feel better," sighed Josh.  Rachel hung her head and walked slowly.  'Thank God!' thought Josh 'I don't think I could have survived her rage-filled beating'

To Josh's surprise, pain erupted from his stomach, and blood from his mouth.  Rachel had punched him, hard.  Morgan gasped at the sight of blood.  The next punch hit Josh in his cheek, pain and blood followed close again.  Afterwards she slammed her fist upwards, into his jaw.  There was a crack, and Morgan fainted.  "Is...that...all?" asked Josh while still coughing up blood.

"I'm just getting started," replied Rachel, cracking her knuckles.

~A While Later~

Josh slumped to the floor.  He was too numb to feel anything, so he just raised his hand to wipe the crimson liquid, which was now everywhere, from his mouth.  The beating was over.  The results were his right eye swollen to the point that he couldn't see through it, his other eye stained a dark blue, a broken arm, a sprained ankle, and a floor stained with blood.  With his operating hand Josh took out his shoelaces and made a makeshift sling for his broken arm.

Josh crawled over to Morgan to wake her, after what was really twenty-five minutes but had seemed like an hour, the beating was finished.  "Morgan?  It's over, it's not that bad," lied Josh.  He knew that this pain didn't compare to what pain Rachel had experienced, so he dismissed it for now, but also knew that he would need some story for his mom.  Morgan came back from her unconscious state.

"What happened?" asked Morgan, rubbing her eyes.

"Oh, nothing much my love.  The only thing that matters now is that we can now go and dance," smiled Josh.  He helped her up and onto the dance floor.  They swayed slowly, holding hands, and she tried to ignore his injuries and just to look right into his eye.  The rest of the night went by with numerous people staring at Josh's also numerous injuries.  Eventually the dance was over and it was time to go home.  Josh limped out to the car that belonged to his mom.  His mom was obviously in the front seat as Josh was not legally allowed to drive yet.  Josh pulled the passenger side door open and got in, cradling his broken arm.

"JOSH!" his mom yelled when she saw him "What happened?"  It took Josh a second to figure out what she was talking about.

"Oh," it was do or die time for Josh, again "I got pushed...into a car...and run over."

"What?" his mom screeched "Did you see the person?  The car?"

"Um...no." said Josh "It happened too fast..."

"Well, you need to go to the ER," nodded Josh's mom, determined to do something that could be considered helpful.  The car ride was excruciatingly boring, and that is literal.  Josh's numbness began to fade and the pain came back, however Josh avoided groaning because he wanted to avoid a longer trip than necessary to the ER.  The trip was also short because Josh's mom was driving way over the speed limit to get to the ER.

They pulled up to the building, skidding to a stop, making marks in their parking lot.  They found a parking spot near the doors to the building.  They parked and got out of the car.  Josh started to walk but tripped on his sprained ankle.  He fell like a log with a 'thump' onto the asphalt, headfirst.  His vision started to fade as he thought 'this has been a really crappy and yet awesome night'.  Then it all went black.

It was morning, Monday morning to be exact.  Today was probably going to be the most boring day of Josh's life.  And to start it off he had a breakfast of hospital food, hospital waffles.

Afterwards Josh started to watch TV.  There weren't any good shows on, so Josh switched to watching movies.  A commercial for Chainsaw came up, forcing Josh to remember what was to happen tomorrow, and mad him wish that Mondays lasted 5 minutes.  But to Josh's disappointment Monday was still scheduled to be 24 hours.

After a couple of movies, lunch came.  Josh wasn't hungry so he threw it away.  The movies got more and more boring until it turned to a romantic comedy.  It was so boring that Josh turned it off and requested a book.  It was brought to him twenty minutes later.  By then it was time for dinner.  Josh threw it with his lunch and opened the book that was brought to him.  Josh now wished that he had asked for a specific book, because it was another vampire novel.  'What is it with this vampire craze?' Josh thought.  Even with that Josh still read, and read, until sleep claimed him for the night.  Again he dreamt, dreamt of Morgan.

"Hey, Morgan!" Josh called across the blacktop "Yo!"

"Oh, hey," Morgan said absentmindedly.

"What's wrong?" asked Josh.

"What?  Oh.  It's nothing," said Morgan dismissively.

"No, it isn't. Spill," Josh said commandingly.

"Fine.  Yesterday, Rachel was pissed off and yelled at me.  Elyssa backed her up.  And now I am just mad at her, that's all."

"What?!" exclaimed Josh "That's it! I was a little mad about what she did to my arm, but now she crossed the line.  You can insult and beat me all you like, but as soon as you even get close to harming my friends, you are dead meat."

"Nice," said Morgan "How long did you practice that?"

"For about one year in my head," laughed Josh.

"Well it sounds good," giggled Morgan.

"Thank you.  I hope I can remember it until lunch.  I have got to get that point across one way or another," growled Josh.  The bell rang and they shuffled to classroom 40.  When they arrived everyone wanted to sign Josh's cast.  Rico was the last to sign it, Josh knew him a little bit, but they didn't talk a lot.  Rico signed it angrily and went back to his seat.

After class was over Rico came up and punched Josh in the hall.  Or at least he tried; Josh saw him coming toward him and dodged it, just in time.  "Dude," Josh said "What the hell?"

"What the hell indeed," growled Rico "You had her, Rachel, the girl of my dreams, but you threw her away for trash like Morgan."

"Whoa," exclaimed Josh "You are way out of line here.  First of all, Rachel and I weren't going out.  Second of all, Morgan isn't trash.  She is nice, caring, and wonderful, the girl of my dreams."

"Oh spare me," Rico said, rolling his eyes "All I know is that you are going to get it, now."

"Well then, bring it on!" Josh challenged.  Rico swung his fist at Josh's face, but Josh caught it and flipped Rico over.  "That should do for now.  Unless you want more, do you?"

"Uhh," Rico groaned.

"I'll take that as a no," said Josh.  He then carried on to his next class, Geometry.

Josh strode out of class, heading toward the cafeteria.  After a short lunch of pizza he would confront Rachel, alone.  Josh grabbed his pizza, pushed the money toward the lunch lady, and moved to his table.  It wasn't his table per se; it was just the table he sat at.  Most of the popular males sad there, but they didn't seem to mind him there.

Stuffing the last of his pizza into his mouth, Josh exited the cafeteria and walked over to Rachel.  She seemed happy to see him, but her expression turned to serious as soon as she saw Josh's angry face.  "Rachel, Morgan told me that you, had some choice words for her yesterday," Josh said determinedly "Is that true?"

"And what if it is?" asked Rachel.

"If it is, then you need to learn that if you harm my friends, there will be hell to pay."

"Ooh," Rachel mocked "I'm so scared of you, the guy of whom I broke the arm of the other night. What are you going to do to me?"  Josh growled at her and then jammed his green hunk of an arm into Rachel's nose, snapping it.  "Hey, whad wad dad aboud?" Rachel asked, holding her broken nose in one hand.  With her free hand she reached to punch Josh, but Josh grabbed her arm and flipped her over, as he had done to Rico.

Rachel took it rolling and somersaulted back to her feet.  Without a word Josh moved in and kneed her in the stomach.  She hunched her back in pain, dipping her head, leaving it open for Josh's fist.  Josh took his opportunity and sent her to the blacktop with a blow to the jaw.  "That was for my arm," Josh muttered.  Knowing that he had taught Rachel a lesson she wouldn't soon forget.  Josh walked away, smirking slightly.

"Josh!" an anxious Morgan yelled "Are you all right? What happened?"

"Let's just say that Rachel won't be talking straight for a while.  And when she does, the only words she'll have for you, if any, will be 'I'm sorry'," smirked Josh.

"Well then," Morgan said proudly "I would guess you did a pretty good job considering the amount of blood that is on your cast.  You may want to wash that off."

"Oh," Josh said, surprised and embarrassed "Right."  Josh rushed off to the bathrooms, feeling as great as ever.  Right before Josh entered the men's' locker rooms, though, a hand hit his cheek, hard.  Josh turned to see who that hand belonged to.  It was Elyssa, looking as happy as ever.  "Hey," said Elyssa smugly "Yeah bitch I'm talking to you.  I saw what you did to Rachel back there.  Are you trying to get arrested or something?  I won't call the cops, I ain't a snitch, but the next time you do that, you'll be the one needing medical support, got it?"

"Piss off," Josh said stubbornly "This isn't any of your business." With that Josh entered the locker rooms and started to wash off all of the blood that had stained his cast.  'Well at least now it is, partly, a cooler color, red' Josh thought, always trying to take the good with the bad.  And between what had happened between him and Rachel, and him and Elyssa, there was plenty of both to go around.

Josh stood in front of the theater. He had bought the tickets for Chainsaw and was waiting for Morgan to arrive. Abruptly, a smart car drove up to the curb.

Out of the smart car came a Morgan, dressed in a tank top and jeans, with a little lip gloss. The wind blew her hair as she walked up to Josh, embracing him in a hug. The car drove away, leaving them alone.
Josh took Morgan's waist in his hand and pulled her closer. Josh handed the worker the tickets and they entered the theatre.  They found two empty seats and Josh left her there so he could go get popcorn. He got the popcorn, extra butter, and a drink, cola, and went back to the theater.

The movie was about to start, so Josh hurried to his seat next to Morgan. The movie was incredibly graphic and gory so Morgan cuddled closer to Josh.

The movie went on and on. Also, they cuddle closer, closer, and closer until eventually they kissed, but only for a moment because the roaring of the chainsaw and screaming startled them. As the movie ended, the main character, which is running away from a psycho killer with his girlfriend, and his girlfriend had their lips locked. Josh and Morgan were imitating the actors as the others exited the theatre.
Josh and Morgan exited the theatre. Outside, they went for a walk in there park nearby. There were a few attempts at conversation, but they ultimately failed. The grass was green, the sun was setting, and everything was good. The couple turned to each other at the same time, and moved in for their, kiss. One sweet kiss led to another, and another, until they were making out on the green blades of grass.
This continued for what seemed like forever to Josh and Morgan, but they weren't really paying attention to anything other than each other. When it ended, Josh got up and helped Morgan up. He then walked Morgan to her house.
"Good night," whispered Josh in her ear, right before he pecked her on the cheek.
Josh glanced at his watch as he sauntered down the sidewalk and saw the time. He immediately started sprinting home, forty-five minutes late. By the time he arrived he was an hour late.
He tried to creep in the back, but the lights were turned on and Josh's mom was standing there, angry.
"Where have you been?" she asked "One hour late. Might ask what you were doing with all that extra time?" She peered at Josh, spotting a slight glimmer on his lips.
"Is that lip gloss?' his mom asked, 'That's it! You were out with a girl weren't you? You are grounded for a week because you were going on a date right under my nose!"
Josh stomped up the stairs, surprised at how quickly his mom had figured it out. Meanwhile, his mom sat down on the couch, remembering bad memories from her adolescent childhood.
                                                 ~Flashback~

"Kathy, are you okay?" asked Leo, Katherine's ex, but only for a matter of seconds now. "If there is anything I could do to help, then name it."
"No, you have already done enough!" sobbed Katherine; smearing the mascara she'd worn to impress Leo. She remembered his face when he had said the words, his lips still had a little of her lip gloss on them. She would never, ever let her son, if she ever had one, do that to a girl.
                                                 ~End of Flashback~
School had been tough on Kathy, between her relationship status, to being picked on by the local bully. But now she lived her life, raising Josh, caring for her husband, and keeping her promises. Some promises were things that she wished she could forget. Rejection makes her stronger. She would have to find out what Josh was doing and deal with it.

"Josh!" Macy cried as she came out of the airport.  Macy was Josh's friend when he lived in Las Vegas.  Their mothers were really good friends and so were Josh and Macy, after they were introduced.  But then Josh had to move away.

"Hey Macy! How has Las Vegas been?" asked Josh.

"Not the same without you!" answered Macy as they hugged.  When Josh left, Macy realized that she has feelings for him, and she had waited for the day when she would see him again ever since.  She smiled and hoped that he would be able to move back to Las Vegas, or that she could move here.

"So, you're staying for a month? And going to my school?" asked Josh, happy to have his old friend back again.

"Yesheree!" said Macy, yesheree was one of her many catchphrases, including 'Yo!' and 'tis true', Macy was also happy, more like ecstatic, but for a slightly different reason than Josh.

"I can't wait to meet your friends!" exclaimed Macy, hoping they were all dudes, thus she would have no competition "Any in particular I should know about?"

"Well, she isn't really my friend, but watch out for Rachel, she is a bitch," explained Josh.

"Got it," said Macy.  That was the last part of their conversation before they went to Josh's house.  After they got there, they went to bed and slept, dreaming; Josh dreaming of Morgan, and Macy of Josh.

Macy woke up, startled; Josh was standing above her telling her to wake up quickly.  It all became clear as she looked at the clock: seven-frieking-ten!  She had five minutes to get ready.  Macy started to get undressed and remembered that Josh was still in the room.  She pretended not to notice until after her shirt was completely off for about five seconds.  After that she pushed Josh out of the room, feigning embarrassment and surprise.

Josh stood outside, shaking the memory out of his head and then walked over the shaggy carpet and into his room to get his backpack.  Meanwhile Macy had already gotten changed and was readying herself for the terrors of school.  They rendezvoused downstairs and headed out the door together.  They only had to walk a couple of blocks to school and did so with minimal talking.  When they did arrive at school they headed off to the lockers.  Macy had claimed the empty locker next to Josh's as her own and they walked briskly off to class.  Before they arrived at class, they ran into Morgan, who was at her locker.

"Hey Morgan!" Josh said cheerfully as he planted one on her cheek and Macy gasped "Oh yeah! I haven't told you, Macy.  This is Morgan.  She is my girlfriend and the sweetest person in the world.  Morgan, this is Macy.  She is a childhood friend and will be staying here for a while," Josh explained.

"Well, it is nice to meet Josh's childhood friend," exclaimed Morgan, trying to be nice to her.

"It’s nice to meet you too!  I am really surprised that Josh didn't mention you!" Macy said with gritted teeth, trying ever so hard to keep out the sarcasm and envy.  After that they walked to class together.  And at lunch, they all sat at the same table, Josh and Morgan kissing every once in a while, much to the annoyance of Macy.  When she arrived home, Macy knew that she would have to do an evil, but seemingly necessary, thing.  Macy would have to get Morgan away from Josh, along with some help, of course.  Macy knew that there had to be at least one girl that Josh had broken the heart of.  'Oh yeah!' thought Macy 'What about that "bitch" Rachel?'  Macy ran and stole Josh's phone, dialing Rachel's number with an evil smile on her face.

"It’s nice to have you all here," said Macy calmly and slowly to make sure that Rachel and Elyssa heard every word.  They were in Macy's room, not 30 feet away from where Josh was.  They were going to plan what to do.  "I know that most of us here want Josh in our pants, but to do that we have to take Morgan out of the picture.  But before we decide what we should do, I think we should decide what we can do," said Macy thoughtfully.

"And what do u suggest we do for that?" asked Elyssa.

"Come here," whispered Macy.  She then explained her plan to them.  It was a plan to test what they could do together.  It was a plan they could, and would execute, then and there.

Josh was on his computer, looking at some stuff on his favorite website, wattpad.com.  He was checking Love Hurts by strawberrygurl98, School of Players by lil-lilly, and Live to Kill by wordman131.  He enjoyed reading those even though two of them were not as popular as they should be.  Suddenly his door burst open, filling his room with Macy, Rachel, and Elyssa.  Elyssa and Macy pinned him against the bed, each grabbing an arm and a leg.  "What the fuck?" shouted Josh, but everyone else was out of the house.

"Don’t squirm," smirked Rachel.  She leaned in and kissed him on the lips.  He struggled to swat her away, but the other girls had been busy hand-cuffing him to the bed.  He was completely helpless against them.

"Ummm, girls.  Can you let me go?” pleaded Josh.

"Sorry, no can do," replied Rachel.

"Macy, why are you with them?  I told you that Rachel was a bitch!" said Josh, angered by the situation.

"I knew that this would be the best way to get you Josh.  Rachel is just a heart that you have broken.  Couldn’t you see the jealousy in my eyes today when you were with Morgan?" explained Macy to Josh.

"Less a broken heart, more a broken arm for me! Why don’t you just let me go?" asked Josh, practically begging.

"Nope, this is how we are testing the water for our alliance," answered Macy "Now just sit tight and wait."  Macy walked up to him and ripped off his shirt and then grabbed the place where the sun doesn't shine with the other.  After that they completely stripped Josh and Macy and Rachel took turns harassing him.  When they were done, they left him like that for the night.  He practically froze before he got to sleep.  The next morning he found Macy above him, giving him a blowjob.  When she saw that he had woken up she continued what she was doing for five more minutes and then unlocked the chains.  Josh got ready for school and left, without a word to Macy.

Josh groaned as he comprehended what had just been told to him.  "A vacation? Up in the snow? Do I have to go?" complained Josh.

"Yes, you have to go.  Your dad, Macy, you, and I are all going, together.  We are just going to be there for the weekend, but there will be a lot of fun!" explained Josh's mom eagerly "And you also get to bring along one person of your choosing."  Josh's mom knew he would pick whoever's lip gloss was smothered all over Josh's lips the night he came home late from the movies, and then she could make sure that he wouldn’t break her heart.

"Really?" Josh perked up "Got it. Thanks mom!"  He scrambled upstairs and grabbed his cell phone.  He called Morgan and told her as much as he knew.

"That is so cool! Me and you out in the cold together.  Maybe the lodge will have some mistletoe so that we can have an excuse to kiss in public," Macy said, and Josh could almost hear her grin through his phone.  Then he remembered Macy would be there and he remembered a couple of nights ago when she and Rachel had raped him.  It is understating it to say that Josh was completely terrified by that memory, and did not want to continue talking to Morgan at the moment.

"Yeah, so I'll call you later, bye." Josh said into the microphone before he pressed his finger against the red button to hang up.  He started packing but knew that he would have some more things to pack when this time tomorrow came because he will have opened all of his Christmas presents.  He was pretty sure that he was getting a PSP, just like he had asked for.

A couple days later Josh was on the road, in the car, next to both Macy and Morgan.  He had put his new PSP away to pay more attention to Morgan.  At first they just talked, then Josh had hung some mistletoe above them in the car, and they started making out.  It had been about five minutes of it before they stopped at the hotel/lodge.  They dropped off their baggage and decided to play in the snow until their room was ready.  They all were dressed up in layers, gloves, coats, and hats, but it was still freezing cold to them.

Josh's dad drove until he found a nice, snow covered trail that seemed to lead to a nice patch of snow.  When they got out they discovered that the snow was soft, slippery, easy to fall in, but extremely hard to get up from.  In fact when Morgan fell, Josh had to help her up because she could not get into more than a crawling position in the snow.  When they were walking up the trail, Morgan had her head on Josh's shoulder, they were holding hands, and it seemed like a winter wonderland.  But then Macy broke the happy couple up and Macy and Morgan drifted forward, away from Josh.

Josh, from then on, brought up the rear of the group, admiring the sheer magnificence of the snow.  All of a sudden he caught his foot on a tree root and twisted his ankle.  He fell to the ground, writhing in pain (as Batman turned back, into Bruce Wane.  But Chuck saw through his clever disguise, and crushed Batman's head, in-between his thighs.  THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN REFERENCE!).  He could not get up, but when he looked up and saw the others far ahead of him, he knew he had to do something.

He slammed his hand into the ground and slid his knee forward.  He did the same thing again and again, in a process we call crawling.  His gloves were not meant for snow and the snow stuck to it, leaving his hand almost as cold with the glove as without it, almost.  He soon found that if he punched the ground at a slight angle, he could move faster.  He set his head down, as if to charge like a bull and raced forward, fists pumping and knees sliding.  With his head down though, his hat fell off.  He couldn't hold on to it with the snow magnets that he called gloves, so he bit down on it and continued going.  The material didn’t taste very good to him, so he curled his tongue up inside his mouth.

After what seemed as hours of short bursts of crazy outrage, Josh was extremely tired and cold.  His head throbbed after each of his speedy periods of time and he was starting to see little flecks of light swim around everywhere around him.  What used to be a winter wonderland was now a freezing death trap.  He cursed the world as a more intense head pain blasted and he was left unconscious.

Josh's mom turned around and expected to see Josh and Morgan sucking face, but was greeted with Macy and Morgan cat fighting.  She looked behind them but could not see Josh anywhere.  "Where is Josh?" asked Josh's mom to the person most likely to know.

"I don’t know," replied Morgan looking all around her.  Realizing that Josh must have fallen behind, they all ran back down the mountain.  After ten minutes they saw Josh's unconscious body, covered in new snow.

"Oh my god!" gasped Morgan.  They all picked Josh up and drove to the hotel.  There was a nurse at the hotel, who worked in room 18, according to the guest services assistant; so they raced down to room 18, carrying Josh the whole way.  Soon enough the heater was on to max and three blow dryers were coating his frozen body with warm air.  Josh soon defrosted and woke up shortly after he was rid of the snow.  The only two who were still in the room were Morgan and Macy, each honestly worried about Josh's health.  When Josh woke up he reached out his hands for a hug from Morgan but was sandwiched between them both within a second.

If looks could kill then both Macy and Morgan would have killed each other.  Josh sneezed and they both backed away.  He had a cold, and it stayed that way until night, when he got in his bed and lay there.  Morgan crept into his room a half hour later.  They had planned this from he beginning but it was supposed to be the other way around.  When Morgan came in she got under the covers and cuddled.  As sleep claimed Josh, he wondered when he would have the courage to tell Morgan what Macy and Rachel had done to him.

Morgan slapped Josh across the face, turning his cheek bright pink. "How could you?!" she screamed.

"How is that possibly my fault? They had me chained to the bed!" replied Josh.  Morgan started sobbing and she cuddled close to Josh. "It’s ok," Josh said, trying to soothe her "Nothing is wrong now."

"I don't know Josh," she wept "I just don’t know."  It was the morning and Josh and Morgan had just made love the night b4 and Josh felt guilt-ridden the whole time, because Morgan had been all happy that they had lost their virginity to each other.  Today was the day that they were heading back home, and tomorrow was school.  The day went by without much talking between the two of them, and Josh hoped this would just be temporary.

During the car ride home, Josh supported his favorite NFL team, the Chargers, by helping them defeat other teams, such as the Steelers, Broncos, and Raiders, in Madden 11.  The only reason he was playing video games and not making out is because of the awkward silence between him and Morgan.  He hoped that their silence would end soon, because Josh was becoming extremely horny.  When he arrived home, he entered his bed, but it felt empty without Morgan there, cuddling with him.

The next morning, when Josh woke up, he went to eat breakfast, but Macy was there, flirting with him the whole time.  When he arrived at school, he could see Morgan, but trouble was all over her face.  Josh raced up to her and asked what the matter was.  Macy's face was tearstained as she said "I think that we have to break up."

"I think that we have to break up." And with that sentence, Morgan ran off, leaving Josh flabbergasted.  Josh was so perplexed that he didn’t notice that both Macy and Rachel hanging on his shoulders all day during class and in the hallway.  What snapped him out of his trance was the rain outside.  'What dreary weather to match a depressing day,' Josh thought.

Mindlessly, Josh filled out his homework mindlessly, sheet by sheet.  The day left fast and sleep claimed him swiftly, filling him with nightmares.  Nightmares where Morgan was right in front of him, but his running and reaching was of no use.  And neither were words, for it seemed that she either ignored him or could not hear him.  Josh hoped it was the ladder.  When Josh woke, he prepared for school.

Before school Macy and Rachel were hanging on him again, but this time he did notice them.  He shook them off as he growled.  They were intimidated, but then remembered what they were able to do to him in the past, but he knocked them both away, with a single motion that was both graceful and full of fury.  Josh walked away from them and showed the girls the same response each time they tried to do that the rest of the day.  Josh also tried to find Morgan, but it seemed as though she had skipped school, for she was nowhere to be found.  Josh felt defeated as he headed home.  He read on wattpad.com the final chapters of Love Hurts by strawberrygurl98, one of his favorite stories, writers, and person to chat with.

At school, Macy and Rachel felt that something needed to be done about their situation.  They cornered Morgan in the hallway after school.  "Josh isn't behaving like he should.  All because you dumped him! You need to be taught a lesson," Macy declared as she pulled out a switchblade.

"Let’s get to this, bitch," Rachel said as she cracked her knuckles.

"She is in critical condition," the doctor said as Josh stood over Morgan's body, covered with cuts and bruises.  Tears fell from Josh's face on to her unconscious body.  All that night he wept.  And all of the next day he wept.  It was a sad time for Josh.

Some offered comfort, but others offered aggression.  Rico spat on Josh's face in the hallway.  Normally Josh would have fought back, but he just continued walking and wiped the saliva off of his face.  Kyle started to make fun of Josh's tear stained face, but was stopped cold by Josh's murderous glance.  If looks could kill, then they would need a new class clown.

Elyssa was probably the person who got under Josh's skin the most.  She walked up to him in the hallway and said "You think you are so special don’t you? Do you think that these things are just happening around you?  Well, I hate to break it to you, but it is all your fault.  Rachel wasn't always such a mean person.  You probably know that the most out of anyone, but she changed after you chose Morgan over her.  You don’t seem to understand that everything that she has done since then has been in an effort to get you back.  You even hurt Morgan!  When Rachel had her way with you that one night, and you told Morgan that hurt her emotionally.  And when you pushed Macy and Rachel away, you brought physical pain on to Morgan.  So fuck you, the world needs less assholes like you."  And with that Elyssa walked away.

On his way home, Josh stopped by the bridge above the freeway.  As he leaned against the rail, Elyssa's words haunted him.  He looked down, down to the freeway.  'Long way down,' he thought.

SPLAT! After that moment a car ran over a body.  A body that had just fallen from the bridge.  A body that belonged to Josh Jacobson.

"He was just all in all the best son I could ever ask for," said Josh's dad, ending his speech.  Josh's memorial service was well attended, but also very sad with three sobbing teenage girls.  Morgan was still healing, but had decided to come out here to pay her respects.  All hardships between the girls were put aside in honor to Josh, who was loved by all three; they just had different ways of showing it.

One by one people got up, shared a story or two about their favorite memories of him and then sat back down.  None of the girls talked, because they could not, for their lives, stop sobbing.  It was a short memorial, he was so young, and people filed out slowly, but surely.  At last all there was Morgan.  She pushed aside the top of the casket to see Josh's face one more time.  When she opened it up, something on Josh's body caught her interest.  She dug a small object out of his shoulder.  'A bullet?' she thought.  At that point Morgan began to suspect that someone had murdered Josh.

Elyssa's smirk of victory against the one who had angered her so turned into a shocked gasp.  If they had the bullet, they could trace it back to her rifle, and back to her.  At that Elyssa started to panic, but calm down after she thought of a mischievous plan.  She pushed the discoverer of the evidence into the casket and replaced the top.  Then she pushed the casket into the proper hole and started burying it; forever silencing the proof that she had killed Josh Jacobson.
