Introduction:

Being a creative writer is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling avenues that any one person can travel on. It possesses the ability to do something that the mind desires to do: create. As a creative writer, there is very little that you cannot write about and even fewer things that you cannot dream up, invent, imagine, and more. You can write according to your ideal fashion and paint pictures with words how you see fit.

The creative process is something that is often wild and required to be tamed a bit. However, depending on the foundation of your writing and the audience that you desire to attract, it is something to be determined by your goals and needs as a writer. Throughout the course of this book, we will discuss foundational topics that will help strengthen your skills as you hone your craft. We will discuss how to recognize what you know and how to discover what you don’t know. Then, we will discuss the process of writing and creating thing anew. Lastly, we will discuss bridging the gap between reality and fantasy.

What many writers struggle to understand is the importance of gaining insight from which their writing stems from. Manuscripts, poems, short stories, and more, each typically contain bits of reality and fantasy. If, you as the writer, can learn to become aware of the variations of each, then you will find it easier to accomplish your goal in writing.

Much like an artist who paints, it all begins with an empty canvas or backdrop. Once the painting begins, the backdrop comes to life and transforms into something picturesque. Most artists know, before applying brush to canvas, what they are hoping to accomplish. They also know that water colors and acrylics are not typically used together without first intending to do so. When applied correctly, water colors and acrylics can be used on the same canvas together and create magical scenes. However, many use one or the other, unaware of how to use both on the same canvas.

Writing is similar to painting. Many creative writers write in realisms or fantasies. Many learn, as they develop their skills, how to best use both together in the same manuscript. It is a craft. When learned, this craft becomes an asset to your writing abilities and helps you understand how far you can take things and when to pull back so that you don’t lose your audience. This book will help you realize the differences as well as creating a healthy combination of the two.

By the way, thank you for being a creator. The world desires to read your work as much as you desire to write it!

Chapter 1:

What do you know?

There is really no question about it, each and every person has experienced many things; some different and some the same though in different ways. Because each person is incredibly unique, with various reasons as to why a person feels things the way they do and their foundations as to what they think about those experiences, every experience is different for every person. Two people may visit the same place, the Grand Canyon, yet walk away with completely different feelings and thoughts about what they witnessed there.

The first person may have been sheltered by their parents for the majority of their life and set off to see the Grand Canyon as a means to become more in-tune with spirituality or nature. This person may have stepped up to the south rim of the canyon in complete awe of such an opening in the earth’s surface. Never before seeing such a magnificent sight, this person may have felt overwhelmed or even burdened by the grandeur of the canyon. Maybe this person felt lost or puny as they stared gaping into the rocky abyss. Maybe this person became frightened and for the first time realized they were afraid of heights. Maybe, just maybe, this person felt free and all of the dreams this person had created in their mind while living a sheltered life had finally been affirmed by seeing something they could only dream about before. Maybe this person fell to their knees and wept.
