Fighting the Waves

You oughta know you’re not always right

And I wasn’t always wrong.

You ridiculed, you trashed

You scoffed at all things good.

Into your twisted world,

You led me thru wide-eyed,

Unknowing, blinded.

Then left me broken, dangling on the edge

With no one to put me together again.

Now I no longer know

Who was to blame though yer sure it’s me.

My mind is slipping to meet the shadows

And night is falling far too soon.

Could it really have been all me?

All along I thought I’m good

Not the best and not the worst.

In a world that remains

Such a mystery to me and in the end

There was no place for me.

The softness that I kept so well-hid

You tore at, pried at

Abased, degraded.

I took it God knows why.

But I thought I was so strong

Nothing could touch my soul

Feeling foolish cause I was wrong

You exposed my soft underbelly

And made a mockery of who I am
