Introduction
Almost everyone likes to play games. Most of us started as children, playing Go Fish or Monopoly and as we became adults we may have switched our choice to poker, blackjack, canasta or bridge. In fact the popularity of poker is at an all time high and video poker is a fun way to play the game.
Whenever you walk into a casino you will see more options for your gambling entertainment than ever before. There are more table games, more types of slot machines, and of course a number of video poker choices. Today more and more people are choosing to play video poker over all the other choices.
Whether you play to have fun or you want to step it up a bit and try to win money in a casino, there will be something in this book for you.
I caution you to remember that in a casino your play may not be just for fun. If you lose money playing video poker, the casino keeps it. You don’t want to find yourself in the position of trying to win back the grocery money or car payment, so always remember that casino video poker players need to be skilled in order to win. Doubtless you are not yet at the top of your game, so play accordingly, using only money that you have designated for gambling entertainment.
That being said, my opinion is that you have a better chance to win money playing video poker than you do playing slot machines or roulette. When playing video poker you get to use your own computer (your brain) and you can make choices that work for you such as:
Play conservatively
Be aggressive
Bet small amounts or bet your bank
Pick your machine
Pick your casino
Play among strangers or play with friends
Drink while gambling or sip only water (I recommend never drinking alcohol while gambling)
Choose which kind of video poker you will play
Set limits of losing or goals when winning
Use your intuition or rely strictly on rules you have established for yourself
And on and on.
When you play video poker, you get to make the decisions that most affect your outcome. The only thing that you can’t affect is which cards the machine deals to you. But when playing video poker you can be assured that the casino doesn’t know which cards you will be dealt either or what decisions you will make regarding those cards.
So I believe your random odds are better playing video poker than they would be with a slot machine, which may not be programmed fairly or loosely, or with a roulette table which may or may not be mechanically sound. Both slots and roulette rely to a large extent on luck whereas video poker relies on skill of play in addition to luck.
I do not believe it is wise to play online gambling games for money, whether poker, blackjack, slots, roulette or whatever. Too many online casinos have been found to not be above board in the fairness of play. Stick to a casino that you are familiar with and you’ll be much more successful playing video poker there.
WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT
So what’s all the fuss about video poker? It seems that more and more people are playing it now in casinos.
Well, the big deal is that video poker is fun to play and you can win money if you learn the game well and play wisely. Video poker is intriguing to play and if you are currently a slot machine player you might want to learn and play video poker instead. You can practice on your computer at home to learn more about video poker, then take the skills you have achieved to a casino to try to win money with what you have learned.
Video poker can be an exciting and fast paced game that you can win money by playing. You need to understand the game and choose the right machines to play in order to most fully enhance your experience.
Winning requires that you develop good skills and good discipline. There are some ways to enhance your chances of winning and reduce your chances of losing in the LONG RUN. Nobody wins all the time, but you can develop the skills and wisdom to do well if you learn what you need to do and DO IT ALL THE TIME. Discipline is necessary if you’re going to do well at video poker.
No matter what casino game you play, luck will always be a factor in whether you win or lose. In fact on some games, such as roulette or slot machines, luck is pretty much the only way that you can win. It is true that in the long run, and on almost every game in a casino, the house will win. The casino is available to players around the clock and over time the machines and tables favor the house.
