Eye Of The Storm

“It’s coming,” Wade said excitedly. “Forecasters are now predicting it to cross the coast at around four this afternoon. And guess what?”

“What?” Michael asked.

“It’s just been upgraded to a Category Five storm,” Wade said happily.

Michael grinned with satisfaction. “You’re kidding?’

Wade shook his head. “Nope. We’re going to experience the best-of-the-best. You ready for it?”

Michael shrugged, feeling an uncomfortable mix of both pure adrenalin-fueled excitement and complete dread. “I think so. It’s gonna be damned scary, but at the same time I can’t wait.”

The pair were amateur storm chasers. Truth be known, it was actually going to be the first storm they’ve chased and the plan was to capture some of the action on video and upload it to YouTube. Fifteen minutes of fame and all that. The entire city had been evacuated; everyone either leaving town or bunkering down in designated shelters to ride out the hurricane. As far as Michael and Wade knew, they were the only idiots who hadn’t left or taken refuge.
