"Will you take a quarter for this?" is something you might hear often at a yard sale. Utilizing tips and suggestions in this book will increase your profits by as much as 400% and minimize the pressure to accept a paltry quarter for your item.

After spending the last 35 years assisting my father fill his antique and collectible store via yard sales , auctions, and estate sales these tips and sources are here to guide you to the ultimate yard sale. One that is fun to shop at and highly profitable.

Preplanning your sale takes a bit of time but the results are worth it. Schedule your sale on a weekend that doesn't fall on a holiday. People headed out of town on three- day weekends lessen the number of potential customers.

Essential list of items needed for your sale.

-pricing tags either preprinted or blank

-extension cord for testing electrical items.

-bright colored poster board for signs and large black marker. White just doesn't stand out enough while bright color commands attention.

-clear storage bins for organizing

-calculator

-bags from the grocery store, newspaper for fragile items and boxes for heavy items.

-Masking, scotch, and packaging tape

- a money box container or pouch to make change easily

-change for customers several fives, ones, tens, twenties and coin change sorted out. Start with at least $80.00 in your cash box mostly of fives and ones and two ten dollar bills.

-tables for displaying items. You can even make ones using large board planks from Home Depot and boxes to support the wood planks. Folding card tables can be placed together.

-bed sheets or table cloths for covering your tables.

- scented oil plug in units with vanilla smell or something similar. Vanilla scent is often used to help sell homes in the real estate world and the same applies to sales. The cleaner, organized sale which is inviting to people will sell the most items. Playing music from a radio is also a good idea if it is not too loud and is neutral music. No hard rock or country find a pop station with soothing music .

Advertise your yard sale on Craig's list, on-line, in the newspaper, and penny saver ads. You might even want to print up fliers to let people know of your sale. Grocery stores often have bulletin boards for posting and a free source for advertising. Make use of any and every avenue to inform as many people as you can of your sale. Consider making partial proceeds of your sale donations to a charitable organization. This will increase your sales because people know some of the proceeds will benefit one of your local charities.
