A Friend Up In the Clouds
By: Charles Lombardi
Once Upon a time there was a little boy named Andrew who lived in the clouds. All Andrew wanted was a friend, someone to play with. He would sit all day long and watch all the little boys and girls play. One day he asked his mom if he could play with the children down below, she told him there was no way to get down there. So Andrew would sit all day long and think how he could get down there to play.
One day he wrote on a piece of paper “Hi my name is Andrew will you be my friend?” He wrapped it around a muffin he had left over from dinner and dropped it down. A little girl named Corinne and her sister, Julianna were walking by. The muffin hit Juli on the head and she picked it up, she asked Corinne to read it to her. Corinne, who wanted to be friends, could not find Andrew.
The next day Corinne and Juli returned to the park where they found the note hoping there would be another one. They waited, and played for an hour. Then, out of thin air, another note fell to the ground. Juli wanted to know where they were coming from and who was doing it. This time the note said “can I please be your friend? I have nobody to play with.” Corinne started to call his name but no one answered. Juli also called his name but nothing.
So the next day they went there, no note. Three days have finally past when they found another note, it said “I see you play all the time and I want to play too,” with an arrow pointing up. Corinne and Juli both looked up and they could not believe what they saw. It was a house in the clouds and a little boy waving. Corinne and Juli started to wave back, he was so excited that they finally saw him. Andrew wrote another note and it said “Can I please play with you?” Corinne thought about how she was going to get a note up to him. Then she saw her friends Kristin and Nicholas walking down the block with two balloons and she said “That’s it! Juli, we will tie a note to the balloons and send the note up to him.” Juli was so excited she ran down to Kristin and told her about the friend up in the clouds. She asked Kristin if she could use her balloons to send up the note. Corinne wrote a note back to Andrew that said “We are trying to think of a way for you to get down here then we can all play together.”
