Sun poured into the plain bedroom. The small holes in the burlap curtains created a bright but eerie ambience as Jesus sat straight up from his bed. He yawned as his arms stretched out to his sides as far as they would go.
Damn, he thought to himself, it was morning already. Jesus hadn’t slept well all night, but it didn’t matter because he was awake now and had a much bigger problem. Jesus felt his chin, and the pimple that he had last night had now doubled in size. He thought about popping it but would that make it worse? Would Melissa notice it or not? And would she notice or care that it was his 16th birthday today? These were all things he would think about some more while he got ready for school.
