A Firefly Dream
In the big meadow behind a little house lived a momma firefly. She lived in the soft green grass under a small bush. On this night she was tired but very proud. For you see, she had just had a little baby boy.
"Open your eyes my sleepy baby boy," softly cooed the momma firefly to her new-born bundle of joy.
The baby boy squinched up his face and shook his head. Smiling she tickled him just so. Giggling, the little firefly tried his best to pretend to still be asleep.
"I see you," said the momma.
The little one held out his arms and momma scooped him up and held him close.
"I Love You so much. I will never let you go," said the momma firefly.
"I Love You to momma," replied the baby firefly.
Opening his eyes he took his very first look at the sky above. "What are those momma?"
"Those are stars," she answered.
"They are so pretty, and there are so many of them. Can I be a star momma?"
Laughing she said, "Silly boy. They are way up high. No firefly has ever reached them. Now put that thought out of your head and let's go get dinner."
With that, they both spread their wings and took off into the soft warm summer night. A week went by and he started seeing other flashes of light around the meadow. He flew a short ways to the other flashing lights. Happily he saw that they were also fireflies. Soon enough he made many friends. They would play in the air above the meadow flashing their little lights. As fun as that was, the thought of all the stars never left his mind.

In the little house beside the meadow lived a little girl and her daddy. Every night during the summer they would sit outside and watch little lights dance and play. The little girl loved those times. It seemed as if there was nothing in the world but her daddy and the fireflies. One night she saw a new little light that shined brighter than all the rest. Happily she watched it as she would for many nights to come.

Every night the little firefly would romp and play with his friends. One night he told them of his dream to be a star in the skies above. They laughed at his dream and he went home very sad.
"Momma? Is it wrong to dream?" asked the little firefly.
"No honey, it is not. It is wonderful to have a dream."
"What about my dream to become a star?" he asked.
"You may dream of whatever you wish my little one," replied his momma.
"Do you believe in me?" asked the little firefly.
"Yes I do. You are special because your light shines brighter than all the rest. You can have your dream if you work hard enough," replied his momma as she lovingly stroked his head.
Then wrapping him snug and warm in a soft leaf she sung him a lullaby until he fell fast asleep.
