The most common types of skin anomalies are acne, moles and warts. While acne typically occurs at puberty, moles and warts can develop at any age and may cause anxiety and discomfort. Our common reaction is that we want to get rid of them as soon as possible. However, you should never feel victimized by any such skin anomaly, it happens to just about everybody at some stage of their lives.
In this book, I will explain why these skin anomalies occur and what causes them. You will then learn about the methods that are available and recommended for curing yourself of these anomalies and also how to prevent them developing in the first place.
You should also be aware that our society has inherited a lot of myths and fables about causes and remedies, some of which clearly belongs in the realm of ancient folklore. You have probably heard that warts are caused by physically handling a frog or toad. Leave the poor frog in peace; it has absolutely nothing to do with your wart.
This book has three separate chapters, dealing with wart, moles and acne respectively. The remedies outlined are those provided by medical specialists, most commonly a dermatologist and these are followed by what I have called home remedies. These include the type of pharmaceutical products that you can buy without a doctor’s prescription and how to use and apply these. The milder forms of acne, moles and warts can be successfully treated and cured by home remedies while more severe cases need the services of a medical specialist.
This book explains many different treatment methods for conditions that many people sea as beauty marks, while others may suffer anxiety and discomfort. However, skin anomalies can worsen and develop into serious medical problems.

Warts are something that most people suffer at some time during their lifetime. They are not a permanent disfigurement and it would be fair to say that the main characteristic of warts is their nuisance value. You look at them and just wish they weren’t there. To start, let's give you some insight into the viruses that cause warts to appear.
Warts are caused by a virus called “The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which belongs to the papillomavirus family. It is one of the most common viruses known. There are some 200 strains of HPV capable of infecting humans and they frequently do. However, infection is normally confined to the upper layers of the skin and mucous membranes.
These infections take the form of warts. As an aside, I can also mention that there are strains of HPS that can cause cervical cancer in women and cancers of the anus and genitalia but this is not the subject matter of this book.
The only good news is that our immune system is normally strong enough to fight off any HPV infection. As most people know, antibiotics and other currently known medications do not kill viruses and we must rely on our immune system to fight the infections. For this reason, we must find other ways of treating warts and there are several methods which I will outline in this chapter. But first, I will explain the type of warts that you may be unlucky enough to encounter.
Warts come in different types and shapes because the infection is caused by different strains of HPS. Some types cause itching before the wart grows and protrudes from the skin. Most commonly, warts look like rounded bumps, some with flat heads, or like protruding clusters. You will often see rough and varied edges in their growth as well as cracks in the skin surface. Their color can vary from skin color to grey or brown and some will have black heads. Warts will commonly appear on the hands, feet, legs, face, neck and the genital area.
As I have already alluded, warts are non-cancerous skin growths cause by a viral infection. They vary by type and size, each with their own peculiarity. These are the different types:
Common warts
These usually grow on the fingers, around the finger nails or the back of the hands. These warts are also called seed warts because the blood vessels that feed the wart look like black dots resembling the look of seed. They normally have raised rough edges.
Warts that grow on the fingers or around the finger nails can be of three types:
Flat warts.
Periungual warts.
Seed (common) warts.
Each different type is caused by a different strain of the HPV virus. Your doctor will be able to identify which type of wart you have and recommend the best treatment. Some of these warts can be treated at home using a pharmaceutical product while others are more resistant, so it’s important to know what you're dealing with.
Flat warts
These commonly appear on skin covered by a beard or on the legs of women. Small children may also contract them on the face. They are called flat warts because they are smaller and smoother than other types of warts. The main problem with flat warts is that they can grow in large numbers. They are often spread by shaving.
Facial warts
These grow on the facial skin or on a mucous membrane such as an eyelid. They are more common among adult people. Facial warts can be difficult to diagnose. It can start as a small skin bump, often the same color as the facial skin. They may also appear as a black dot caused by a tiny blood clot. It is advisable to consult a specialist who can correctly identify what it is.
A special type of wart, commonly found on the face, eyelids, or even the lips is called a filiform wart. Its appearance is long and narrow.
Plantar warts
Commonly known as foot warts, these appear on the soles (plantar area) of the feet. They look relatively flat and are often painful. They are caused by a virus attracted by walking barefoot on a dirty or littered ground surface, particular in a warm, moist environment where the virus thrives. They may look gray or brown in color with one or more black pin points.
Left untreated, these warts can grow to an inch or more (2.5 cm) in circumference and spread into clusters of several warts, known as mosaic warts. They can also cause bleeding which may cause them to spread around the sole of the foot.
Oral warts
These appear in or around the mouth or lips. They generally grow as single warts or in a small cluster, taking one of three appearances: a small round growth, a larger flat-looking growth, or thick leafy-looking patches of skin. Unless they are cut or opened while eating, they are not painful. Regrettably, they are the price adults pay as a result of participating in oral sex.
Genital warts
Genital warts are caused by the same virus as cervical cancer. They appear on the genitalia as small bumps or lumps of skin, either as individual warts or in a cluster. They are similar in appearance to warts which are found on the hands or feet. They are one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases.
