Chapter 1

"No matter how slow the film, Spirit always stands still long enough for the photographer it has chosen."

~Minor White

How beautiful these lines seem to be but do you know there are hundreds of technicalities involved in producing a really remarkable picture. You might not be acquainted with all the photographic terms but now you have a dictionary that brings you very close to your passion for photography. If you are not fully prepared for the venture, you would only be the admirer of the following lines:

A photograph is a time transfixed in print; it represents the past which can never be brought back, however, the memories related to the past can always be revived by just looking at a photograph. An expressive face, a fleeting moment in nature, an abstract shape- these are the fundamentals of photography. A photograph conveys, in a way no words can, a sense of the mystery and beauty of life, nature, and the achievements of mankind.

A photograph is a kind of filter that sifts the present which might be full of war, terrorism, abuse, poverty, and many other negative aspects of life which were not there at all when the photograph was taken. The first photograph was taken in the year 1827. The art of photography has provided us a new perspective on life and art. Our culture, our mental images, and our surroundings are very highly influenced by the pictures which we have already seen. A photograph of a place takes us to the world which is so remote from us but we feel close to it.
