Woke up, slightly blurry eyed, dry mouth, yes, i actually am hungover, even though I was convinced I "wasn't drunk at all last night!" I had been at a work party last night that I wasn't supposed to go to, but heard there was a free bar, and couldn't resist! The joys of my job involve a lot of events by manufacturers.

So up I got, jumped in the shower, tried to wake myself up somehow.

I walked to work in the beautiful sunshine (we only get one day a year of sun ;) shame I had to go to work, but this was no ordinary day, today was the last day before I had the whole following week off!! YES! Halleluah! Everyone asks me "Oh are you off anywere nice?" I reply "Nope, I want to be anywhere but here for a few days!" ;) story of my life!

So as were all working away, the sun is shining in through the windows, making it impossible to work! We went to the Park up the road for icrecreams on lunch break, i got attacked by a bee and Icecream in my hair! :( i didnt realise the reality of my plan!

So embarrased i return to work, sitting here, typing, waiting for the boss to leave... tick tock tick tock.... once he is gone, my holiday begins!!! :) Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Well that was probably the worst day of work I've had yet! Working in a bank isn't quite the rockstar lifestyle I thought it would be :) don't mind too much, it's 25 degrees outside and when I settle onto a pint of Guinness it'll all be forgotten! Oh, and I wentto the zoo today and met a Rhino! He's awesome! PEACE!!!

St Petersburg , 3rd June, 2011

05.30 Day starts with 60km cycle ride with old school friend, White Nights means there's plenty of daylight.

08.00 Quick shower and then off to the office

09.30 First meeting of the day with the Production Team to talk about an exciting new historical TV project. Some great stuff during the blue sky session, looking forward to the challenge.

11.00 Catch up with emails and calls.

12.30 Lunch meeting with the Editor of my latest book to discuss last few tweaks before going to print. Fabulous lunch at the Grand Hotel Europe, love this place and never tire of the great atmosphere and service.

14.00 After a few nice glasses of chablis it's back to the office for a catch up with a schools charity project, such fun to see kids getting involved in improving their own lives. Loads of energy from everyone so another great meeting.

15.30 Time to head for Pulkovo Airport in time to fly to Moscow for dinner with friends, and a weekend at the Dacha.

16.00 Traffic chaos and nutters making things worse by rubber necking!!

17.00 Just make it in time...I hate being that last passenger who holds folk up, and yes I should know better! A tad embarrassing...

19.00 My trusty driver Oleg has me now safely in the car enroute to my friends close to the Lubyanka, home of the old KGB. Looking forward to a proper catch up with friends I've not seen for a year. Vodka, champagne, flowers and chocolates all in hand for the hosts...

Hope everyone has had as good a day as I've had, and that it's a great weekend, with fab weather wherever you might be in the world.

Dear diary,

I and the rest of my colleagues with Justice for Magdalenes (www.magdalenelaundries.com) are waiting on tenterhooks for the final observations/conclusions from the UN Committee Against Torture, to whom we submitted a report on abuses and civil rights abrogations against women who spent their lives in Ireland's Magdalene Laundries. Unfortunately, the final report won't be released until Monday. *Sigh* After we'd been told it would be today. Frustrating...but we'll think positive!

Enjoyed the (rare) sunshine in Cork by going to Garretstown and getting in a swim. Can't beat Ireland when the weather is this good.

Used my entire check to pay for the car repair, yikes. Sold my mini fridge to my sister so I could buy groceries, thanks sis. Glad the car's running again, heading into work at 4.

The Day After Ascension Thursday - Lucky to be Alive

A rare treat to be home at the seaside on a Friday after a week working in London. Decided to rise early ( 5.30 ) and complete my favourite 10k run along the banks of the Ribble Estuary. With the sun rising over my left shoulder and a great view across to Southport and beyond to the Welsh Hills.I was able to confirm a line of the Roman Poet Virgil " the greatest wealth is health " .

Being one of the hottest days of the year and perhaps one of the hottest in my lifetime in Ireland, i was awoken with the heat! Always a good complaint i guess! 26 C! Lounging in bed until mid-day, The sunshine was too strong to ignore and I reluctantly got out of my uber comfortable bed (Im not being dramatic when i say it might be the greatest bed ever for comfort levels!!!) We had no milk so off the shops i had to go, no sun bathing in the garden for me :(
