Introduction
I met Louise L. Hay in 1985 and some point in that year we decided that our work was complimentary. We created a project called "MetaFitness: Your Thoughts Taking Shape." My sister and writing partner Joan Meijer and I wrote the book, and Louise and I co-created an exercise video with affirmations and exercise tapes with affirmations. In that book audios and video lay the seeds that have led to this book.
Early in the 1990s Joan and I decided to separate the Body Wisdom chapter from the book, to expand it both in number of body parts and in the amount of material we presented and to create divination cards to go with the material. We expanded the MetaFitness chapter into a book and initially created the cards. Later, when we went digital, we created paper strips and a website where readers could get a daily reading to go with their
In those days I was conducting conference breaks for Caroline Mysse and other speakers. As a perk I was allowed to have a product table. On that table I kept a basket filled with Body Wisdom Cards. Over the years literally thousands of people came by and pulled a card. To our constant amazement everyone picked the perfect card for them. Either they had a problem with their body or they were dealing with the life-issue. It was amazing to see how the Body Wisdom information fit.
I expanded the use of the cards into my classes for coaches and hypnotists. I would ask my students to draw a card and then have their partner create a hypnosis process for them. I cannot begin to describe the value these cards created in the classes. And, as I could have predicted, every person who drew a card drew the card with the issue with which they were working in their lives.
What If You Don't Have A Body Part?
The very first problem we ran into with our product table was strapping men drawing the vagina cards and sweet older women drawing the penis or the testicles. This process divides into two important parts - the body part and the life issue. Even if you don’t have a penis, you may be wrestling with the furthering of your creativity. We tried to eliminate embarrassing body parts altogether, but when we did that we lost all the creativity issues, so we had to add them back. Even when we used “female sex organs” and “male sex organs” we found out that we missed the nuances of creativity. So please understand that you don't have to be a man to draw the testicle card for example. Or a woman to draw the vagina. If you do draw that card, look at the issues the card addresses and how to apply the information and affirmation to your life.
It's Now Okay
As I worked with clients over the years I discovered the down side of the average affirmation. Very often clients would create an affirmation for what they wanted to achieve as if they had already achieved it. The fact that they weren't there yet there would set up an internal argument that would nullify the benefit of the affirmation. I introduced "It's Now Okay" to the beginning of my affirmations so that people would get out of their way in changing their lives.
An affirmation is a statement that you make over and over again. It can be negative as well as positive. It is important that you monitor your negative affirmations so that you can change your life. You will notice that I have created an opportunity for you to make your own affirmation - one that is closer to your life than these generic affirmations. Make certain that you stay away from the negatives like no and never, don't and won't. The subconscious mind does not hear the word no, not, don't, can't, won't. "Please Don't Let Me Trip," turns into "Please Let Me Trip." If you use “It’s now okay…” you are giving yourself permission to have what you want. You can use a word like “avoid” instead of “don’t”.
In addition, the subconscious mind does not hear he, she, they, we or it. It only hears "I". "She's such a witch!" turns into I'm such a witch." There is tremendous power in words, use them wisely and carefully. Constant complaining rapidly becomes an affirmation. Listening to constant complaining gets taken on as an affirmation.
How To Use This Book
You can draw a card by visiting my website www.suzypruddensbodywisdom.com. Or you can look up the body part with which you are having difficulty in the book itself (they’re alphabetical). I did not write this book to be read cover to cover like a novel so there is some repetition in it. Skip over what you don’t want to read.
There some body parts that I have not covered in this book because we simply had to stop somewhere. If you wish us to cover a part we missed in the second edition please email me at suzyprudden@gmail.com.
There is a great deal of support that goes with this book. suzypruddensbodywisdom.blogspot.com has daily readings and bodywisdomcards weekly readings are featured on YouTube.
I look forward to hearing from you and to learning about how you are using this book and the cards and the benefits they have brought to your life.
Body Wisdom Workshops

Body Wisdom Layouts
If you want to draw a card every day and see what your issue for the day is you can go to www.suzypruddensbodywisdom.com where there is a page set up for a different card to open every time you open the page.
If you have slips or cards you can draw from them.
We have also published a Body Wisdom Journal for you to use to keep track of what you draw and the insights from what you drew. There are also notes for you to write down what happened during the day that related to what you learned.
If you wish to do a lay out, we have found the best to be the three card layout.

Your abdomen represents your ability to safeguard and express thoughts and ideas – your inner creativity. It also represents your area of intuition – your “gut feelings.” A building up of extra weight on the abdomen indicates that there may be a blockage in your life. You might be feeling trapped, stuck or unable to move in or out of a certain situation. Fear of some kind may be causing you to deny your self. Denial may be related to the problem. Abdominal pain, disease or weight gain may also indicate an inability to bring your thoughts and ideas to fruition. Dis-ease in the abdominal area may mean that you are unwilling, or unable to listen to, respect or honor your intuition. That may play out in your life as knowing that “bad” things might happen which you consistently fail to pay attention to with negative results. Pain, disease or weight gain may reflect blockage in your career goals. Weight gain in the abdominal area, in particular, is indicative of the development of heart disease which indicates that your inability to listen to yourself may be impacting on your center of love and empowerment.
When you draw the Abdomen Card or Slip you are being asked to examine the blockages and fears that are keeping you from fully expressing your thoughts and ideas and bringing those thoughts and ideas to fruition. It also asks you to pay attention to those instances in which you don’t listen to your inner knowing and failed to protect yourself in your life. Pay particular attention to instances in which your desire to be liked and to be accepted interferes with your need to proactively protect yourself. Ask yourself: Where you feel that you need protection? What is causing you to deny and express your true self? What has to happen for you to pay attention to your small inner voice – your intuition?
To work with issues of the abdomen, ask your Higher Self what you need to know in the area of safeguarding your thoughts and ideas, so that you feel safe and protected in developing or expressing them. What has to happen to advance your creative ideas? You may also ask about where you are experiencing creative blockages in other areas of your life and what you need to do to release them. Finally, ask your Higher Self what has to happen in order to trust yourself when you have a hunch that you should or shouldn’t do something. Ask particularly what has to happen so that you can consistently act on your hunches rather than pushing them away so that you get into trouble or fail to do something that will advance your life, your relationships, or your career. Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do to shift your need to protect your thoughts and ideas so that you may more fully express them openly and fully and release any blockages you may be experiencing. Also ask what has to happen for you to listen to, and honor, your inner guidance? The final question of every session should be, "Is there anything else I need to know?"
Find the affirmation that you feel best suits your needs in this moment. Or make up an affirmation that you feel more closely satisfies your needs. Write the affirmation on a 3 x 5 card. Carry it with you, rather than posting it somewhere, and read it numerous times throughout the day. (If you post it, it will soon become invisible to you and you will get no benefit from it.)

The adrenal glands represent balancing emotions. A person with out-of-balance Adrenals will be subject to exhaustion, mood swings and an out of balance life. Since the Adrenals also support the Thyroid, there is a chance of sudden unexplained weight gain or loss.
When you draw the Adrenal Gland Card or Slip you are asked to look at those areas of your life where you lack emotional balance. Are you subject to exhaustion and mood swings? Do you sleep well? Are you experiencing unexplained weight loss or weight gain? Do you suffer from an inability to lose weight? Do you feel a need for protection in your life – protection from things over which you seem to have little or no control? Do you drink a great number of caffeinated drinks, coffee or black tea that work less and less well to stimulate you?
To work with adrenal gland issues ask your Higher Self about what you need to know in the area of balancing your emotional life. You may also ask about how you are responding in out of control ways to the issues that are coming up in your life - rushes of anger that do not match the circumstances for example. You may also ask how you can protect yourself from the things over which you seem to have little or no control. You may also want your higher self to explain why you are experiencing sudden unexplained weight loss or weight gain. Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do to shift your need to balance your emotions so that you may release any mood swings you may be experiencing. Ask how you can protect yourself from the things over which you seem to have no control. Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. The last question of every session should be, "Is there anything else I need to know?"
Find the affirmation that you feel best suits your needs in this moment. Or make up an affirmation that you feel more closely satisfies your needs at this time. Write the affirmation on a 3 x 5 card. Your ankles represent the way you move through change. As with the wrists, your ankles represent your ability to take in and receive pleasure but more narrowly as it applies to change. Ankles add ease and flexibility to your ability to move through and deal with change. Because of their junction with the feet - your foundation and your ability to move forward in your life, ankle change is also about forward motion. When you have pain or injury in your ankles you want to look at where you are holding yourself back from necessary change, and where you are denying yourself pleasure in life-foundation areas.
When you draw the Ankles Card or Slip you are being asked to examine worries or resistance to change that prevents you from moving forward in your life. You are also being asked to pay attention to those life changing opportunities that improve your life that may at first seem too risky. Pay particular attention to habits that you may have developed around being open to change. In many instances when you get to the other side of change you will look back in amazement and wonder what took you so long. Ask yourself: What changes are my ankles pointing to and what has to happen to make them happen? What is the worst thing that could possibly happen if you actually make the changes that you know need to be made? How do you get into action?
To work with Issues of the Ankles, ask your Higher Self about what you need to know in the area of identifying the changes you need to make in your life, overcoming resistance to those change, and getting into action to make the changes happen. You may also ask about where you are experiencing a lack of pleasure or unhappiness that could be fixed with the slightest of changes. Finally, ask your Higher Self what has to happen in order make the changes happen in your relationships, family, career, prosperity or other major life areas – changes that now seem difficult or uncomfortable – that with the slightest difference could make your life seem simply marvelous. Write the questions with your dominant hand. Write the answers with your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do to shift your difficulty with change to an embrace of new things. What keeps you from thinking that you deserve more happiness and pleasure in your life and how do you change those beliefs to allow the good times in? Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. The last question of every session should be, "Is there anything else I need to know?"

Your Anus represents the way you present yourself in the world – which includes how you are perceived in the world - which may not be the same thing. The anus issues are often either/or. Are you perceived as in control or out of control? Are you perceived as up tight or relaxed? Are you taken seriously or not taken seriously. Ultimately the Anus issue is whether or not how others perceive you gets in your way - stops you from doing what you want to do. It deals with whether how you perceive yourself stops you.
When you draw the Anus Card or Slip you are being asked to look at how you want to be perceived in the world, how you present yourself in accordance with the way you want to be perceived, or your frustrations around the way you think you are perceived. The Anus Card is about a battle between who you want to be and who you think others think you are.
To work with anus issues ask your Higher Self how you want to present yourself to the world, how you want others to see you. Then ask yourself how you fear people really see you. The important thing about this issue is whether how you fear others may see you stops you or gets in your way. Of equal importance is whether the way you perceive yourself stops you or gets in your own way. Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do to shift the way you feel about how others perceive you or how you perceive yourself so that you get out of your way and achieve what you want in your life. Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. The final question of every session should be, "Is there anything else I need to know?"

Your arches represent life's unlimited possibilities. Fallen arches or flat feet may indicate a hobbling belief in self-imposed life limits or limits that have been imposed by the society in which you live - society can include family. The limits of society may include self-imposed limits. Pain in your arches may result from an inner need for you to pay attention to where you are stopping yourself, where others are stopping you or where self-imposed limitations conjoin societal limitation. Fallen arches often include the development of calluses which address issues of pressure or friction within the context of self-imposed or societally imposed limitation. Arches, as an important part of the foot, have to do with moving forward in your life in some way.
When you draw the Arches Card or Slips you are being asked to look at your areas of freedom and your areas of limitation. Whether those limits are okay with you or whether you chafe against them. Are you happy with the freedoms that you enjoy? Do you fight for self-liberation? Are you content within the structure you live in? Is limitation an issue in your life and if so how does that play out and what can you do about it? Limits can be physical, mental or emotional. If you are not happy with the limits of your life are you taking action to change them or do you simply chafe against them, complain about then, or rebel against them?
To work with arches issues ask your Higher Self what you need to know about the physical, emotional or mental limits in your life. Ask yourself honestly how you are dealing with those limits - constructively or destructively? Is the way you are dealing with the limits of your life or the limits placed on you by your society positive or negative. If negative what can you do that will be more positive? Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do to shift your relationship with your the negative aspects of limitation in your life.
Baldness represents the need to control. It can also represent fear, stress and tension in life. It symbolizes trying to control rather than trusting life’s process. It is almost as if you try so hard to hold on and control your life with your mind that you have cut off the circulation to the roots of your hair. (This, of course, is an image, not a statement of fact.) Shaving one's head is both a statement of power and a statement of surrender. In some cases baldness has been used to symbolize power through surrender.
When you draw the Baldness Card or Slip you are asked to be aware of the areas of your life in which you are holding on, which you are trying to control and which defy control. You are asked to look at how you can solve whatever problems you are trying to control and discover how you can achieve power through surrender. You are also asked to look at your willingness to trust. This is more than simply trusting other people, although that is part of it. It is about trusting life's process, the Creative Universe, the Divine.
To work with baldness issues ask your Higher Self what you need to know about letting go, trusting what you cannot see and surrendering to life's process. What needs to happen to let you feel safe without being in control? Write your question with your dominant hand. Write your answer you’re your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer ask your Higher Self what you need to do to know that you are safe in a world you cannot control. Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. Since your feet represent the base upon which you stand, the foundation that supports reaching for your dreams, your roots. The ball of the foot represents balance and forward motion; that part of your foot that pushes you forward. Pain or injury in the ball of your foot is a great limiter and reflects an inability to push forward in some area of your life. To narrow the information of what area you are not able to push forward, pull another card.
When you draw the Ball of Foot Card or Slip you are being asked to look at an important area of your life which you would like to push forward in but appear to be unable to advance. This generally means that you cannot make progress for some reason. It may be that you cannot overcome your reluctance to do something you don't like to do - like make phone calls for sales. It may be that you cannot seem to attract important people into your life. It may be that you cannot seem to break through in an area of problem solving. Whatever it is, you appear to be blocked for the moment. Working through ball of the foot issues will allow you to move forward in an area that has been frustrating to you.
To work with ball of foot issues ask your Higher Self what you need to know to break through in the area that currently frustrates you. If you are not certain which particular area you want to work on, draw another card. Ask yourself what you need to do to attract the right people into your life in order to have the support to push through this blocked area. Ask yourself what things you need to overcome in order to push through in this area - and create an affirmation to help yourself. Ask yourself what problems you have to solve and how to solve them. Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do first to shift what you have to do to start the push toward what you want to accomplish. Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. The last question of each session should be, "Is there anything else I need to know?"

Your big toe represents your personal will and how you follow through on what you want and what you are interested in. Other personal will issues involve how you respond to others. Do you ignore what you want in favor of the interests of other people? The big toe is about following through yourself in your own interest unless following through in the interests of other people is to your benefit.
When you draw the Big Toe Card or Slip you are being asked to look at whether or not you follow through with regard to your life, your work, your relationships and the things you are commitment to as they pertain to you. Pay particular attention to whether you actually follow through on those areas that pertain to you. For example, you make or fail to make the calls that will advance your chosen profession so that you sabotage your business or work. You sabotage your relationships by not following through on things you say you're going to do and pay a personal or professional price. Any time you fail to act on your own behalf you pay a price for failing to follow through. Your bladder represents nervousness and anxiety. Issues with bladder control are either the result of – or the cause of – anxiety. That anxiety can be linked to old beliefs, habits, patterns and ideas that have ruled your subconscious for most of your life. You may now see those habits, patterns, ideas and beliefs as negative, but they are often difficult to release.
When you draw the Bladder Card or Slip you are being asked to look at whatever it is that causes you to be nervous or anxious in your life. You are also asked to look at the habits, behavior patterns, beliefs and ideas that are having negative results in your life. These ideas can impact your health, your relationships, your balance, your work. They are difficult to change even when you see that change is important. Ask yourself what you need to change in order to make things work better in your life. Look at the habits and behavior patterns that are keeping you stuck in a negative behavior pattern. How important is that change and how hard are you holding onto that old habit or pattern?
To work with bladder issues ask your Higher Self what you need to know about where you are stuck in a negative behavior or habit – one particularly based on an old idea or childhood training. How is that behavior or pattern impacting your behavior? Does it cause you nervousness or anxiety? Does it have physical, mental or emotional impact? What holds you back from changing that idea and those behaviors and habits? Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do to shift your old ideas so that you can change your habits and behavior patterns and release nervousness and anxiety. Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. Your Blank Card or Strip represents your ability to trust without absolutely knowing. There are many times in your life when you must believe that every need that you have is filled and you know that your needs are filled because you have a roof over your head, food in your stomach and clothes on your back. It is important to keep on walking secure in the knowledge and trust that your needs are met in present time - which is now, this very moment. There can be no trust without action.
When you draw the Blank Card or Strip you are being asked to look at letting go of doubts, fears and insecurities and trust that you have everything you need in this moment - even if it doesn't appear that you do. Trusting does not imply not doing. It is important to keep moving forward in your life working to solve problems without simply relying on trust without action. At the same time it is also important to trust. Are you worrying too much and is your worrying helping you? Do you trust too much and is your trust getting in the way of your taking care of yourself. Trust does not imply waiting for something good to happen. Trust implies that you do everything you must to meet your needs and at the same time trust that what you are doing will pan out.
To work with blank card issues ask your Higher Self what you need to know about how you are acting within the context of absolute trust. Are you doing everything you need to do within the situation you are in and at the same time trusting that your actions will turn out well? What do you need to do to make things work in your life? When are you going to start doing them? Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do to get in action in your life without blocking the action because of a lack of trust? Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. The last question of every session should be, "Is there anything else I need to know?"

Your bones represent structure. When you have bone problems, you may feel rebellious against the structure of society, your home life, or the way you have structured your life. You may have a strong underpinning of, “Don’t tell me what to do,” even when that attitude frequently has negative results. When you have bone problems, you may find yourself over compensating for a feeling of weakness in the face of adversity or the rule of the society you live in. Your life may be off track, so you stop yourself by bruising or breaking a bone or by doing something behaviorally that causes you to stop and take time for reflection.
When you draw the Bones Card or Slip you are being asked to look at your attitudes toward structure and discipline and how those attitudes impact your ability to move forward positively in your life. Do you resist structure and discipline in your life? How does that resistance work out? Do you prefer to fly by the seat of your pants? How does that work out? Do you have an underlying belief that structure limits creativity? How does that work out? If you have bone problems look at the body part that is affected, and see how structure or lack of structure impacts the life issue indicated by the body part. Or draw another card or slip and apply structure to that life issue.
To work with bone issues ask your Higher Self what you need to know about how you work with discipline and structure in your life – whether disciple and structure help you or hinder you. Whether you have a negative attitude toward structure and discipline and whether that does or does not work for you? If you have a physical problem with bones in a certain area ask yourself whether increasing or reducing structure would benefit you in that area? Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. When you have an answer, ask your Higher Self what you need to do to shift your attitude toward structure and discipline so that they will help to make your life work better. Do not judge the answers. Do not get in your own way with doubts about your ability to do whatever comes to your mind. Simply write down what comes to you. The brow reflects butting heads against authority. It is also a barometer of what's going on inside. Worry, upset, anger, surprise, fear, puzzlement, concentration, joy, openness and delight are just a few of the expressions that appear on the brow.
If you have drawn the Brow Card or Slip you may want to look at the emotional elements of your mind-chatter. Reflect on the predominant emotions in your life at this time. Are you constantly angry or upset? Are you delighted with life? Are you open to people and ideas around you? Do you constantly fight against authority? Ask yourself what has to change in order to bring more joy, openness and delight into your life.
To work with brow issues ask your Higher Self what it is that you need to know about the predominant emotions you are feeling at this time. When you have an answer ask your Higher Self what you need to do to change the emotions that are not serving you at this time (remember, you can effect your emotions you do not have to be at the effect of them). Write your questions with your dominant hand. Write your answers with your non-dominant hand. Do not judge the answers from you Higher Self.
