Chapter I

The Caribbean Vacation

Matt always knew that his ancestor was a brutal pirate back in the 1600s. As a kid he would daydream about him. He always played the part of a pirate in all the games.

When his new girlfriend suggested that they take a vacation in the Caribbean he was anxious to go. He was especially motivated during the last few weeks because he could not get his old pirate ancestor out of his mind.

He seemed to have vivid images of him killing people and hiding treasure. Why are these visions becoming so vivid after all these years?

He rented a 46 foot yacht in south Florida and headed for the Caribbean.

When you are in the Caribbean sounds of romantic island music fill the senses. The visual scene is even more magnificent than the music.

The clear blue sky complements the blue-green sea to give a feeling of endless space.

Matt's rented sailing yacht is alone in the sea, racing towards a distant island. The brilliant colors of its billowing sails belie their tremendous force as they push the yacht across the rolling sea.

The bow slices through the blue-green water casting a sparkling spray of rainbow hews. The yacht speeds through the shallow waters towards the white sand beach of a palm shrouded island of primitive, timeless beauty.

It is a mesmerizing sight!

Matt is a handsome man in his mid-thirties and dressed in his bathing suit. He is indeed mesmerized. He stands on the foredeck and quietly stares at the unbelievable scene.

His face takes on a concentrated stare as he thinks of the pirates of old that use to sail these seas. He can almost hear the sounds of their times.

His girlfriend, Kim, a beautiful hard body type in her late twenties, dressed in her thong bikini, watches Matt from her control position at the boat's wheel. She knows that he loves this moment. She smiles.

Two crew members lean against the aft rail and admire Kim.

As Kim watches Matt, the sounds of his daydream become clearer. Pirates are yelling as they prepare to anchor near the shore line. Matt can see Captain Jack, who looks a lot like Matt, commanding a crew of four pirates as they shove away from their pirate ship of the 1600's. They are in a dingy of old. A sixth pirate, Hawkins, seems to be second in command. There is a large treasure chest in the middle of the dingy.

Captain Jack speaks harshly to one of the crew: Move it!

The four crew members row towards the shore as Captain Jack stands with one foot on the treasure chest.

Hawkins moves closer and deliberately places a foot on the chest and stares at the Captain.

Hawkins: I don't want my part buried. I say split it up and let each man be responsible for his own.

Captain Jack responds with a snarl: And I say we bury it for protection.

The crew continues to row the dingy as they sneak glances at their rivaling leaders.

Captain Jack: And that's an order from your Captain.

They try to stare each other down.

Hawkins: I want my part now.

He moves his hand to the butt of the sword hanging at his side.

Another long stare; Hawkins is not going to back down.

The dingy hits the shore. Captain Jack falls forward into Hawkins. Hawkins reaches out to steady both of them.

The Captain grabs onto Hawkins and begins to laugh. He hugs Hawkins. Hawkins returns the hug and joins in the laugh.

Hawkins and Captain Jack continue to laugh as Hawkins steps out of the dingy. He turns to help the Captain.

His smile turns to shock as Captain Jack gives him an evil sneer.

Hawkins looks up at the Captain's sword raised high above his head. Hawkins' hand moves towards his own sword.

The Captain swings down hard with his sword. Hawkins' hand and part of his forearm is sliced away.

Hawkins looks at his hand and arm as it falls into the sea. He looks back to the Captain. Then before Hawkins can move, Captain Jack shoves his sword into Hawkins' heart.

They stare at each other for another moment before Hawkins falls lifeless into the water.

The Captain speaks coolly: Any more mutineers?

A ghostly looking woman in a white flowing gown moves up behind Captain Jack.

Kim speaks softly: Captain....

Captain Jack twirls around towards the ghostly woman....

The spell of the daydream is broken.

Matt regains his composure.

Kim puts her arm around Matt: Dreaming about Ole Captain Jack again?

Matt grunts a half laugh: Yeah...

Matt shakes his head and places his arm around her. She smiles at him.

One of the crew members is now at the helm. The other is beginning to prepare the boat for docking.

Kim looks towards the island: There it is.

Matt: Yeah, that's the one.

The yacht continues towards the island

A man in his early 40's, Mickey, wearing an unusual Arawak Indian hair-do, stands with a very beautiful ebony black woman, Nadine, as they watch the yacht approach. She is wearing a throng bikini that precisely matches the color of her ebony skin.

She watches Mickey closely as he stares at the yacht.

Mickey catches her stare: Let's get ready.

He turns and quickly walks away from the beach. She glances at the yacht again and follows him.

The crew completes their task of securing the yacht to the dock and start to leave.

The lead crewman points to a building: When you need us, we will be at the little house just over the hill there.

Matt: Thanks.

The crew member glances at Kim: enjoy.

Matt smiles: Yeah.

The crew members smile at each other as Matt looks at Kim. She gives him a big smile.

Kim goes into the yacht as Matt walks to the aft and stares at the beautiful sea. After a long while he goes into the lounge and begins to stare at something above the couch.

A painting of Captain Jack stares back at him. A long pirate sword hangs below the painting. Matt studies the painting. The eyes seem to grow more intense.

Matt moves closer and continues to stare. The lips begin to develop a sneering smile.

The hair on Matt's neck begins to rise.

Suddenly something slams against Matt, knocking him to the couch!

Matt is overpowered by a completely nude Kim that giggles as she frantically kisses him repeatedly.

Matt has already forgotten Captain Jack as be comes out of the shock of the impact and begins to respond to Kim's advances.

Kim helps him struggle out of his clothes and they make wild passionate love.

After a while, Matt and Kim come out onto the dock. Kim seems to be glowing as she enjoys the beautiful scene. Matt seems a bit tired.

Kim joyously points out some colorful birds in the near-by trees.

Nadine has been watching them. She disappears into the vegetation.

Matt and Kim continue happily up the path from the dock to Mickey's Place.

Mickey stands holding two glasses as Matt and Kim walk up: Welcome to Mickey's Place.

He hands the drinks out: I'm Mickey.

Matt takes the glass: Ah.... thanks.... What is it?

Mickey has a twinkle in his eye: Pirate's rum.

Kim: Thanks.

She touches her glass to Matt's and gives him a big smile as they take a sip.

Matt: Good.

Kim drains her glass: Very good.

Nadine stares at the group from inside Mickey's Place.

Mickey motions for them to come inside: Come in.

They walk in and look around. On the wall, behind the bar, is another painting of Captain Jack. Matt seems surprised as he stares at it.

Mickey: You know old Captain Jack?

Matt: Ah.... yes.... ah, I have a similar painting.

Mickey: Yeah, there are lots of them. He made this island famous. Supposed to have buried his loot here back in the 1600s.

Matt: Yeah.

Kim: Matt is a descendent of Captain Jack.

Mickey: Really?

Matt: So they tell me.

Kim: Matt dreams about him all the time.

Nadine steps forward with interest and stares at Matt.

Matt: Ah.... hello....

Mickey: Nadine is always interested in... in communications.... dreams or whatever... with the dead.

Nadine: Do you feel the presence of Captain Jack?

Matt: Ah.... yeah.... sometimes... (nervous laugh) I think about him.... in daydreams....

Kim: Nightmares too.

Matt: Yeah.... sometimes. I guess I just have a great interest in him. . . . because they say he was my ancestor.

Nadine: I can help you reach him.

There is a long moment of silence.

Kim: Like a séance.... or something?

Mickey: Something like that.

Matt gives a nervous laugh: Well we may try that. (looking around) Thought we would take a look around the island. One of our crew members said that we should walk up to the top of the old fort.... over there.

Mickey: Yes... yes.... Very beautiful view.

Matt: Well, nice meeting you.... we'll see you later. (looking at Nadine) And.... yeah.... we'll try that.... later.

Nadine smiles back at him.

Matt smiles and shakes his head: Yeah.... ah.... see you later.

They walk away. Mickey and Nadine stare after them.

Matt and Kim come out of Mickey's Place and head towards the hill top.

Matt whispers to Kim: Weird people,

Kim giggles: Yeah, isn't it great.

Matt raises his eyebrows and finally smiles as they continue up the path.

Matt and Kim stand at the hill top by the old fort, hand-in-hand, looking at the scene below. The blue-green water seen through the lush vegetation is lapping at the white sand.

Kim: So beautiful.

Matt: Yeah it must have really been a wild place when the old pirates were here.

Kim sees something and points: What are they doing.

They see a group of people in a flat spot down the slope. Two have surveyor's instruments and seem to be laying out a digging site. Others are digging.

Matt: I don't know.

Kim: They're digging up the Captain's treasure!

Matt laughs: I doubt that.

Kim smiles adventurously: Let's go see.

A very beautiful girl, Victoria (Vicky) seems to be in charge of a four man crew that is digging for artifacts.

Matt: Hello.

Vicky: Hello. Can we help you?

Matt: We were just taking a walk. Curious as.... ah.... (pointing to the dig) What are you looking for?

Vicky: This island is going to be developed into a tourist resort. I work for the government. We are trying to locate some of the artifacts that may have been buried here.

Kim: You mean like where the pirates buried their treasure?

Vicky smiles: That would be great. But we are looking mostly for Indian sites. The Arawak Indians lived here before the arrival of the Europeans. We would like to find and preserve anything we can about their life.

Kim: No gold?

Vicky: Well there are rumors that they worshipped gold idols before the white men came. But one of the pirates killed many of them and took their religious emblems.

Kim: Gold?

Vicky: Some gold. Some were religious items much more important than gold.

Matt: Which pirate?

Vicky: Captain Jack.... mostly.

Kim: Matt is a descendent of Captain Jack.

Vicky becomes very interested: You are a descendent of Captain Jack?

Matt: So they tell me.

Vicky: I would like to talk about.... to interview you.... (Looking at Kim) .... if you could spare the time.

Kim glances at Matt: Maybe later?

Matt: Sure.... later. We're on the sailboat.... (Pointing) .... down at the dock. Let me know when.

Vicky: Good!

Kim begins to pull him away.

Matt: See you later.

Kim: Bye. (under her breath) Bitch.

Matt gives her a surprised look. Kim flashes her eyes at him and smiles.

Vicky stares after them as they walk away.

Kim starts running down the hill, pulling Matt after her. They giggle like school children as they frolic down the hill.

Matt and Kim run to the beach, still giggling. They begin to undress down to their bathing suits. They splash and play in the surf. They are having the time of their lives. Finally they crawl out onto the sand exhausted.

After a while Matt falls asleep. Kim sits up and smiles down at him as his eyes twitch in the REM of dreams.

Kim gets up and washes her face in the surf. She smiles back at Matt and begins a walk along the beach.

Chapter 2

Captain Jack's Treasure

Matt continues to dream. The dream seems almost like a flashback to the treasure site of Captain Jack. Captain Jack leads his crew towards a rocky outcrop overlooking an under water cave at the edge of a lagoon. The crew carries the treasure chest.

As his dream continues, two of the crew members are in the water placing stones over the treasure chest as it lies in the water at the bottom of the cave.

Captain Jack watches from above.

Finally the chest is totally covered and the two crew members begin to climb up the bank towards the Captain.

As the first crew member nears the top, he sees one of his fellow crew members lying dead only two feet in front of him.

An expression of shock develops on his face and he looks up at the Captain. The Captain sneers as he plunges his sword through the crew member's throat and down into his chest cavity into his heart.

The crew member grabs the sword and it slices through his hands as he falls back towards the water.

The second crew member looks up just as his colleague's body tumbles down onto him and forces him to also fall into the water.

The second crew member panicky thrashes about in the water as his dead colleague begins to float away.

The Captain hurries down the bank as the second crew member tries to scurry away.

Too late; the strokes become more brutal as the Captain leans down and strikes the crew members face and neck.

*******

Meanwhile back at the dig site, everyone is gone except for the two man survey crew. Someone watches them for a moment and than rushes towards one of the men.

He sees his companion looking at something behind him. He turns just in time to see the sword striking his neck. Two more swift strikes and he is dead before he can fall.

His companion is frozen in horror. Then the attacker rushes towards him. He finally comes to his senses and turns to run.

Too late; the attacker slices into his neck!

Then again!

And again!

*******

Matt continues his dream. The Captain continues to hit and slice the crew member with his sword.

The sounds become louder and begin to sound like horses hoofs running in the sand.

Vicky and her Assistant are riding two magnificent horses down the beach towards Matt.

Matt jumps awake and stands up. He looks around for Kim. She is not in sight.

Vicky and her Assistant stop near Matt.

Vicky: Hello.

Matt: Ah.... hello.

Vicky: We finished the dig for today and decided to take a ride. (looking around) Where's your friend?

Matt looks around and sees Kim's foot prints in the sand.

Matt: I believe she took a walk.

Vicky: Thought anymore about Captain Jack and my interview?

Matt: Well as a Matter of fact.... I was just dreaming about Captain Jack.

Vicky: Oh? What did you dream?

Matt: I saw him hide the treasure.... and kill all of his men.

Vicky is very interested: Where did they hide it?

Matt: They put it in the....

Vicky anxiously awaits his answer.

Matt starts laughing: You believe dreams are true?

Vicky: Can be. (persisting) Where did they hide it?

Matt just stares at her.

Vicky: Did you see the treasure?

Matt: No.... it was in a chest.

There is a long moment of silence.

Vicky: I could help you find it.

Matt studies her in silence.

Vicky: You may have the ability to see.... the....what he did. His genetic memory....

Matt: What's that?

Vicky: Birds migrate according to the memory handed down in their genes... (pause) You have your ancestors'.... Captain Jack's memory in your genes. Somehow you seem to be able to.... to recall it. Recall his genetic memory....

Matt begins to believe that this may explain his visions, his dreams.

Matt: Is that really possible?

Vicky: Yes. (pause) Have you been taking the drugs to help you recall?

Matt: Drugs? No.

Vicky: Oh? Normally you have to take a certain drug to get such good recall.

Matt: What kind of drug?

Vicky: (thinking how to explain) At a certain time of the year.... birds secrete a hormone that causes them to "recall" their genetic memory.... So they know how to migrate. (pause) There are drugs that imitate that hormone.... can help us recall.

Matt: Yeah?

Vicky finds him completely charming.

Vicky smiles at him: Yeah.

They stare at each other for a long moment.

Finally Matt looks around: It's getting late. I've had a long day. Better be going.

Vicky: Matt let me help you, work with you.

Matt: Yeah. Yeah, I'd like that.

He looks at her for another moment and then nods to her Assistant.

Matt: Good day.

The Assistant returns the nod.

Matt nods to Vicky and turns and walks away. After a few steps he looks back. They are both standing silently watching him. He smiles and continues to his boat.
